“They” who cannot be known.

”They“ were no longer attempting to hide ”Their“ agendas.”They” were not even hiding how “They” were crushing the dissenters, the discerners, now done in full view of the masses, the sheep, the zombie apocalypse.

”They” had of course been forced to conceal agenda ninety, agenda ninety-nine and agenda double zero. There were still too many of the old school mages, those that had believed in the magical power of truth, through their ritualistic use of critical thought, their incantational questions that had binary truth or lie answers. No “They” had to work in the shadows, and the work had been slow, years, decades and centuries slow.

Agenda seven was the first to really gain traction, to hold water. Hidden behind pseudo science of being able to kill the planet, and coupled with the emerging power of social connection to the unamind, where free thought had its costs and compliance rewarded like a great big green tick on a kindergaterner’s first day’s work. “They” made some real progress, “They” made some mistakes. “They” underestimated social engagement. But “They” learnt from ”Their” mistakes.

Agenda fourteen after it’s release was existential proof of agenda seven’s success. Dissenting decreased sixty percent, even the most staunch activists were apathetically silent. In fact a new species emerged, a new subgroup of sheep, dimly aware that something was not right, they listened to the music and watched the shows designed to flush them out, but simply did not respond. “They” knew that these sleepy sub-sheep needed to be kept asleep, that they were a key ingredient in the engineering of “Their” utopia. Studies had to be conducted into the origin of the species, so that “They” could duplicate the effect. To date it is still a mystery.

The subgroup indeed became the measure of success for future implementations. It was the group that had to nurtured and grown, clearly they had brains, they were just not using them. The subgroup was named the ”TIH“ (Thinking Is Hard) subset. Perhaps though agenda fourteen’s most interesting outcome was how compliant the complicit were. How they would rise up on their keyboards in great packs and defend the agenda even in the face of genuine science, without regard to the damage, to themselves or friends, relatives and complete strangers, their wrath would wreak. This new effect was an added bonus, which gave “Their” science teams a new focus, social disconnection, what a powerful new tool. “They” had no idea even “Themselves“ how powerful. The social disconnect research lead to further research into physical disconnection, another useful tool the science geeks could not wait to employ.

Agenda twenty-one, seemed like another agenda release, another new subgroup. The ”TIH” subset had grown slightly with this release, may of the sleepers woke up again, but were outnumbered by those who no longer cared. However the new subgroup was different, they thought, they talked, they had the conversation, they could clearly see the truth, but they had a new emotion, a new weakness, it took some time to identify. They thought, they talked but they did not act, they were afraid, afraid to lose their lifestyle, their income, their comforts. “They” had dangled the consumeristic carrots in front of the masses fifty years before without any major social influence, but now it had had a profound effect.

This new subgroup however were dangerous, they had a volatility, they were labeled the ”dissenting complaints” and they were spreading through their conversations the dissenting message, which was fanning the flames and warming up the flocks. This meant the ”They” had to crush these dissenters, social media needed to prove its place and had to step in to silence them, punish them, imprison them in disconnected silence. These inactive talkers had to be insulated, discredited and ostracised from the sheep.

”They” had tamed the lion long ago. “They” owned the sign on the hill, it was well trained and easy to maintain. Give them debauchery, they loved being in the spotlight, some were glad it didn’t need to be hidden anymore, but it worked and it keeps them in line still, regardless of their personal opinions, dissenting at that level is a short career choice. The only form of media not satisfactorily under control was print, print had shown such promise in the early days but it was by far too easy to be commandeered by the mages of the old school, who kept the fires burning. In the old school teachings for some God forsaken reason critical thought had a twin sister named well read, well read married Mr informed, so well read is actually well informed. And that is dangerous to ”Them”.

However the socials influx was doing a great job at breaking the reading cycle; character limits, hilarious memes and of course #TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read) were satisfying the human intake of the written word. Religion had also stepped up to the mark on the reading matter. Restricting reading to the select prescribed text by approved authors. Education likewise assisted by reducing the the reading load to about three chapters in any requisite textbooks to ensure educated professionals retained a bookshelf of intelligent sounding titles that completely explained the entire contents of the book, safely ensuring its covers never to part. Hitler had attempted to crush reading but had failed dismally, censorship was attempted but only really worked on the compliant. The answer as it turned out was let them read just enough to think they are reading without any real information involved.

Agenda twenty-one advertised itself clearly in one hundred and fifty five languages and the flocks lapped it up, glued to their screens, as suggested by Orwell, twenty-four, seven not willing to miss a thing. The masses were at last mesmerised. Agenda thirty was even being slowly leaked to the mainstream media now with almost no effect apart from a handful of die-hards that had been written off years before, as easy targets for labels such as “nut job“ or “screw loose”. It was considered unlikely these die-hards could effectively coerce enough sheep into action to have any real impact. Although the drip feed of false information had to continue to flow just ensure they kept fighting amongst themselves as to which conspiracy was “THE” conspiracy, otherwise they might join together and discover the mages of the old school were still around to guide their lost souls to the light of truth.

That old story was so tired now, but it still worked, the Mark of the beast. It had evolved from a tattoo on the forehead, through a barcode on the wrist to a microchip under the skin. But the new treatment had nano technology and programmable MRNA, the blurb clearly stated, accepting it was technically informed consent, morally uncertain, ethically diminished, but informed consent none the less. “”We“ can program the disease”, the one you believe in, whichever one that is,”out of your DNA sequence” it says right on the developers website. The sheep lined up, the dissentres made their plans to stand against it, needlessly afraid of rumours of compulsive acceptance, it had never been needed before and would not this time either, but they showed their hands in resistance and the targets were painted clearly on their backs. The dangerous subgroups both lined up, not wanting to make a fuss. Although some managed to move among the flocks without drawing too much attention, little did they know that the sense of smell could be genetically altered to flush out the infiltrators.

The truth is that ”They” do not require everyone to be engaged by the technology, just the majority to keep “Them” in power should the old school mages ever ascend united. Not even ridding the world of the mages is in ”Their” plan, besides what would ”They” do if they had no one to dance with? ”They” would be bored if they did not have “Us”.
