Doctor Who: a show that takes us through time and space, many adventures, scary creatures. Some people love the show for the actors who play the Doctor and the companions, others for eras themselves, some, the iconic music that accompanies each story.

From Series 1 through to 10, composer Murray Gold scored the episodes, releasing some absolute corkers, including “The Shepherd’s Boy” from the very popular episode “Heaven Sent”. After Series 10, Gold decided to step down as composer when head writer Steven Moffat and Doctor at the time, Peter Capaldi, also stepped down from their roles.

Newcomer composer Segun Akinola took over as composer in 2018 and has scored every episode since Jodie Whittaker became the Doctor. However, when everyone switched roles, fans have been missing one thing: the release of the Series 10 soundtrack.

Many fans out there, adore the soundtracks that go with every series and always sit patiently for it to be released physically and digitally. When the show was revived in 2005, the soundtrack has blown fans away, even more so as the show continues.

When Capaldi became the 12th Doctor, releases for the soundtracks began to slow down rapidly, and the Series 9 score took years since the series aired to be released both digitally and as a physical CD. Of course, fans were grateful for the release but were then treated with another long delay.

Series 10 aired in 2017, and here we are in 2021 without a release of the soundtrack. Dare I say it, the soundtrack for the tenth series has some of Gold’s best work he’s completed. We recently reached out to Silva Screen Records who distribute the Doctor Who soundtracks for a comment on the release of the music. A spokesperson for the company said:

“We haven’t received any news at all about this release, sorry. All we know is that it is still not available for us [Silva Screen Records] to license.”

They also confirmed that many fans approach the company for news on the soundtrack and understand the frustration surrounding the delay.

Sadly, Murray Gold is not on Twitter anymore, so fans cannot reach out to him via there anymore like they used to. We also reached out to BBC Questions, who confirmed to us that they’ve “done some checking” and delivered bad news by saying “there is no update on the release of this CD”.

To keep fans on their toes, a YouTuber has reconstructed the main and popular tracks from the tenth series for fans to enjoy. The hour-long reconstruction available here features Bill’s theme, and the emotional track where Bill lets go of the Doctor and runs away with Heather. The Christmas special, “Twice Upon A Time” is also included.

It’s a shame the soundtrack won’t be surfacing anytime soon, however, Doctor Who fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming year.

Filming for the thirteenth series is well underway with Whittaker stepping back into the Doctor’s shoes for her third series as the show’s lead character. Whittaker will be accompanied once again by Mandip Gill as Yaz, as well as newcomer John Bishop becoming the latest companion named Dan. The TARDIS team has been spotted all over the country, along with plenty of familiar monsters making an appearance in the upcoming series…spoilers!

Series 13 is due to air later this year, and it is rumoured that this series will be Whittaker’s last as the Thirteenth Doctor, but this remains unconfirmed by the BBC. For now, fans sit patiently for brand new content from the show ahead of the next series.

Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the U.S.
