10 Gags From 'LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' That Make Us Love 'Star Wars' Even More

As a long-time fan of both Star Wars and LEGO, The Skywalker Saga is another welcome addition to the LEGO series of Star Wars games. One of the things we love the most about The Skywalker Saga is the tongue-in-cheek storytelling relying heavily on visual gags. Especially when they take a rather unpopular moment from the movies and make us laugh at it. After beating all nine episodes of the game, we compile a list of some of our favorite scenes from the game that add to the absurdity of the Star Wars universe.

10. The Battle Of Naboo Looked Terrible In 1999

There is a lot to unpack in those cutscenes, but the mowing man at the start stands out. Not because someone has to tend to the field but because of just how awful the special effects in The Phantom Menace were. In particular, the background image of the landscape when viewed at a distance just seems to fall flat. There is also the moment when the Gungans surrender and their Faambas throw up their front legs in surrender as well. Even at the very end of the battle when Gungans are pushing around the deactivated battle droids, we can see one Gungan bowling while the groundskeeper mulches some droids up to try and help that grass grow.

9. Lando's Disguises In Jabba's Palace

While Landonis Balthazar Calrissian is a fashion icon in the galaxy far, far away, we did not realize just how adept he is at the art of disguise. First, he appears in his guard disguise behind Jabba, then he quickly changes his disguise to a potted plant as somehow that will be less suspicious. After realizing this ruse may be all too effective, he swaps over to a cactus costume and is seen directly across the throne room a while later right behind our heroes. Shortly after Jabba’s barge leaves, we see him disguised inside a droid, waiting for R2. Really, all of these disguises make sense seeing as Lando always has a massive closet close at hand.

8. General Grievous And Obi-Wan's Dance-off

What is not to love about a good dance battle? The fact that they change little to no dialogue in the fight only adds to it. As soon as Kenobi starts shuffling and exclaims, "Your move," we were enjoying ourselves, let alone seeing General Grievous return the move with the classic robot. He must have been trained in the breakdancing arts by Dooku as well. After Grievous loses the boss fight, we are treated to a little river dance as his headless body jumps off the ledge and Obi-Wan deftly shoots his head like a clay pigeon.

7. It Is Really Cold On Hoth

There is a lot to love in The Empire Strikes Back, but one of our favorite gags is found on Hoth. The line, "We are having trouble adapting the speeders to the cold," is a throwaway in the movie, but here we can see that the poor things really do hate the cold. At the start of the Battle of Hoth, we can see a Rebel trooper building a small snow fort and piling snowballs. Shortly thereafter when the Imperials are in range, she unleashes the snowballs on the incoming enemy forces. There is also the ice sculpture of a stormtrooper that a talented Rebel leaves for the Imperials to find in the hangar. An AT-AT also has some trouble on the ice.

6. “I Know.”

One of the most iconic scenes in Star Wars history is when Leia tells Han that she does love him just as he is put into the carbonite freezing chamber. Then, Han replies with the famous, "I know." The thing we love about this scene in The Skywalker Saga is that Han does not get a chance to reply. Instead, as he is lifted out of the carbonite freezing chamber, we see a closed refrigerator door covered in fridge magnets spelling out, "I know."

5. The High Ground Is Approved By OSHA

One of the most infamous prequel memes is from Revenge of the Sith. The climax of the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan culminates on a lava riverbank when Anakin foolishly attacks his former master from a lower position. This gives Obi-Wan the tactical advantage as he effortlessly cut off the limbs of his once apprentice and best friend. However, in LEGO Star Wars the high ground is actually a properly secured ladder. Even a LEGO Jedi knows safety comes first. Maybe the Council was tired of being fined by the Republic's OSHA for breaking child labor laws.

4. Indiana Jones References

Indian Jones (starring Harrison Ford as the titular archaeologist) is another iconic George Lucas idea that is made into a LEGO game series. It should come as no surprise that there is at least one reference to the movie in a LEGO Star Wars game. Both of the ones found in Episode VII are blink-and-you-miss-it moments.

When Han is being chased down the hallway of the cargo ship by a Rathtar we see it slip and begin rolling like a boulder only to get stuck in the door a la Temple of Doom. Then later on, during the fight at Maz Kanata’s castle, FN-2199 does a little flourish with his baton. Han whips out his blaster while shaking his head. This mirrors the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when an unimpressed Indiana Jones shoots a guy spinning his sword around.

3. Darth Vader Adjusts The Radio In His TIE Advanced

Starting at around the 9:40 mark in the video, we see Darth Vader entering the trench of the first Death Star. Just like any of us commuting to work Vader knows that the music you listen to on the drive to work can energize you for the day. We see him adjusting the radio until he comes across the Imperial March. Good work getting into the right mindset, Lord Vader.

2. Kylo And Hux Both Want Their Master’s Attention

Kylo and Hux have always displayed an adversarial relationship in the movies. The Skywalker Saga really highlights it. Starting around the 3:15 mark of the video, we see Kylo trying to torture Rey for the map to Luke. When she doesn't break Kylo seeks the advice of his master. Sadly, Hux is also there trying to get a rise from Kylo. He and Kylo squabble over Snoke's attention like siblings fighting for their parent’s attention. Hux knows he does not have a chance until Snoke, seemingly disappointed with Kylo, turns his attention toward Hux. Before he leaves, Hux smugly delivers a sharp kick to Kylo in the back, just like any sibling would.

1. Chewie Gets Very Upset About Not Getting A Medal

Our favorite gag in the entire game is at the very end of Episode IV. The original Yavin IV medal ceremony was a great ending to the first movie with one exception. Despite all of his valiant service during the movie, Chewbacca was the only person who didn't receive a medal. It was a point of pain for many fans seeing as he was a fan favorite. The Skywalker Saga makes light of this by taking every fan's outrage and channeling it through Chewie. He nearly goes on a rampage after all the medals are snatched by other members of the Rebellion. The scene culminates with him throwing himself onto the empty medal chest, kicking and screaming.
