Though it may be a controversial opinion to some, many sex workers have already discovered that OnlyFans is fucking trash. It’s not even the best site of its kind, it’s just the most talked about. It’s time we address the many OnlyFans scandals, as well as look at other alternative sites out there. The most recent OnlyFans scandal involving celebrity personality, Bella Thorne, has seen the subscription site change its terms of service - to the detriment of hard-working people who make their living from OnlyFans. This post will explore 9 alternatives to the paid social media giant so that you can put a back-up site into place for when OnlyFans slowly sinks into mediocrity.

Escandolous!

Before we look at other awesome adult subscription sites, let’s take a look at some of the scandals that have led to OnlyFans becoming the ultimate trash-masters.

Underage Performers

Yeah you read that right. It has been proven that children as young as 15 have managed to sign up and sell pornographic content via the website...multiple times. The information was publicised during the BBC documentary ‘nudes4sale’ when underage girls were interviewed about their experiences on OnlyFans. Even when their profiles were banned, they were easily able to sign up and make new accounts. In the UK, it is illegal to create or possess nude images of anyone under the age of 18. So while you’re using Only Fans, you may inadvertently view some child porn.

Refusing to Accept Multiple IDs

Many models have raised complaints about the verification process, with OnlyFans refusing to accept legal forms of ID. In some cases, they have asked for multiple forms of ID; which users have suggested ‘is enough to have one’s identity stolen’. Which is amusing, considering they accept underage children with fake ID’s with minimal fuss and have a security problem.

Content Leaks

Earlier this year, OnlyFans was hacked and a whole load of content was lifted and posted all over shady torrent sites for users to download for free. This huge violation of users raised lots of questions about how OnlyFans manages its security and keeps its users safe. How much money did the models lose and what other things could the hackers gain access to?

The BBC Documentary

In April of 2020, the BBC premiered an eye-opening documentary titled ‘nudes4sale’. The documentary takes a deeper look and OnlyFans and exposes its dark underbelly - particularly the scandal of underage girls using the platform. Young teens are interviewed about their illegal business, revealing how much they make and just how easy it is to cheat the OF system. Many of these teens had been caught and banned, only to sign right back up again. The documentary is still available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

The Bella Thorne Debacle

OnlyFans’ most recent fuck up sent a shit tsunami through the online sex work community. The celebrity found a way to cheat the system in such a magnitude that OF had to change their user agreements - leading to models not getting paid properly and restrictions being placed on all model account payments. Ms. Thorne used the popular ‘paid message’ feature to make $1 million in her first day - by scamming users. They thought they were paying an extortionate price to view nudes, but instead were disappointed to unlock a lingerie picture. This resulted in OnlyFans placing a cap on paid messages and tributes, as well as changing their pay frequency from weekly to monthly.
