Chapter 3

When she woke up Sunday morning, she jumped in the shower, then headed downstairs into the kitchen to start breakfast. Jamie was still asleep when she had gotten out of the shower, but it was like the smell of the coffee brewing was his alarm clock. As soon as the smell started to fill the house, she heard him get up. She smiled at that thought.

As she was cooking breakfast, she called her parents. She couldn’t wait any longer!

When she told her mom, she was so excited and happy. She yelled out the happy news for her dad to hear. Her parents had both been happy when she and Jamie had gotten back together, especially after finding out that Allison had lied about everything.

Jamie walked into the kitchen while she was still talking to her mom. He kissed her on her cheek and said hello loudly enough to her parents so they could hear him.

Once she got off the phone with her parents, breakfast was ready. They carried their plates into the dining room to eat. She told him about her conversation with her mom and that she was going to call her brother Ryan and then Sharon after breakfast.

Jamie told her he would call his parents, his brother John, and Darrell once she had finished her phone calls.

Once they had cleaned up the kitchen, she called Ryan and told him about Jamie asking her to marry him. He wasn’t quite as understanding of everything that had transpired with the breakup. He was very protective of her and wasn’t sure if he believed Jamie or not about him not sleeping with Allison, but obviously she had lied about being pregnant. So, of course, he didn’t even say congratulations before he asked to speak with Jamie.

“And don’t just put me on speaker, either Christie. This is a conversation for me and him only,” Ryan told her.

“Fine, but you better be nice. I am still older than you and can still beat your ass,” she told him.

“Whatever! Not like that would ever happen. Just put Jamie on the phone,” Ryan said.

She turned to Jamie and said, “Ryan wants to speak to you and if he starts acting crazy you just give me back the phone so I can deal with him!” she said.

“Well, I have to admit, I have been waiting on this conversation since you told him we had gotten back together,” he told her.

Five minutes later he hands her back her phone, laughing at something Ryan had said.

“Everything is good I see,” she said to him as she took the phone back.

He laughed and said yes.

After she and Ryan said their goodbyes, she went and set down at the dining room table to call Sharon.

Jamie knew that this was going to be a long call, so he went into the living room and turned on the TV to ESPN.

Sharon answered the phone on the second ring.

“Hey lady,” Sharon said when she answered, “What are you up to?”

“Hey! I have some exciting news to tell you. And you are going to need to make a trip down here soon!” Christie said in an overly excited voice.

“Okay, this sounds serious. Are you pregnant?” Sharon asked, giggling.

“Oh my God, Sharon, can I get married first?!” Christie laughed into the phone.

“Well, that would be ideal! How are things with Jamie?” Sharon asked.

“Well, that’s why I am calling! He asked me to marry him Friday, night and I said yes! We have a wedding to plan, lady!” Christie yelled into the phone with so much excitement she thought her neighbors could have heard her!

“YES! It’s about time! I can’t wait to start planning! We have been talking about our weddings since we were little girls! I am still your maid of honor, right?” Sharon asked, laughing.

“Well, that is a no-brainer! Of course, you are! Who else would it be? So, we need a girl’s planning weekend. When can you come down?” Christie asked.

“How’s next weekend?” Sharon asked.

“Perfect! See you then!” Christie replied. They continued to talk for a few more minutes about some general ideas but said they wouldn’t make any decisions until Sharon got there the next week.

When Christie got off the phone, she headed into the living room and Jamie had fallen asleep on the couch. She grabbed the throw blanket and the remote. She turned the channel to Lifetime and snuggled in beside him. At some point, she drifted off to sleep.
