How do you identify? A Continuous lifestyle Poll

So you think you know who you are and what's important to you about being that person. You might agree with that statement, or you may not. How often do you ask others who express a similar identity as yours what is important to you about this? I'd guess not often. I'm taking some time to get to know the people and kinksters that my work, community engagement, and identity resonate. And through this work, I’m getting to know different aspects of myself!

I think all of us have seen those polls in groups and online that ask us to choose multiple choices answers, and we are done. We might look back on those results as other people enter them, but it usually will not engage us for long. So I wanted to try something different. I wanted to create an anonymous continuous poll similar to a point in time survey that would allow a person to share who they are and what was important about that. When it comes down to it, we most strongly one thing in a moment. In the next, we may be something else, and the poll allows the participant to share their answer again to capture and represent them. When the poll is finished, each person gets a look at the most dominant identities within the lifestyle communities and what they value and is importantly associated with that identity at that point in time. That makes this a continuous discovery tool for those in the lifestyle.

This information allows me to share better memes and munches, host more on-point events, and ensure I am updated on how the culture changes daily. This poll will be anonymous. As I write this, I'm happy to report a surprising development looking at the results. Switches are presently the most represented identity expressed, and differentiations between general identities commonly expressed are appearing on the list as people discover the poll. Roles such as Pleasure Dom, Asexual and Nerdy, and lifestyle curious are given expression. I am extremely happy that a person into puppy play has shared their experience of being in the lifestyle for 15 years and not seeing the representation within the community. I hope this tool sparks conversation and changes that. We all matter, and we all contribute to this community as we take part in it.

What you see here is not my prescriptive list of expressions, but the descriptive identities of those who shared who they are on the tool. That is how the labels begin to appear on the selections and the graph. Our expressions of ourselves continue to evolve, as do our answers and connections. Looking forward to learning from all of you and discovering how the sharing of ideas helps me describe aspects of myself I may have never been able to express.
