Why Are There Tiger Lily’s
A.H. Mittelman
Saska was a mean tiger, vicious and cruel. He’d eat everyone and everything, even if it meant swimming across a pool.
The animal kingdom accepted predators who hunted to eat, but Saska hunted for sport, not just meat. He was known amongst the locals as The Unstoppable Death. Saska didn’t even stop hunting to take a breath.
Saska eventually found a mate to have kittens with, then ate his mate when he was done with her. He taught his kittens the cruelty of his ways. He told them it was the only way to survive. It was not long before they hunted for sport and were just as cruel as their father, ripping their victims limb from limb while they were still alive and laughed at their screams.
Every day they would go hunting, wether they needed to or not. This was wether the weather was cold or hot. They even stole food in a cooking pot.
They played with their food by torturing their victims first, clawing at them and laughing as they’d twitch and attempt to repress screams. They’d bite them and made the animals watch themselves get eaten. Their cruelty was relentless and unwavering. They once kept an animal alive and screaming for seven days.
They tricked an elephant into thinking they were friends, then they made the elephant watch as they ate the elephants family. Then they ate the elephant too.
“I’m proud of you boys,” Saska said while licking his large paws.
“You’re just like me,” Saska said and smiled. “Now put those bones in a pile,” Saska said and thought a while.
The pile of bones grew and grew, and eventually the tigers used the bones to build a large bone wall around their home to scare off intruders or animals that might want revenge.
They went to sleep and bathed in the lake the next day. It was time for the entire animal kingdom to pay. How dare they declare the lion was king. This little fact made Saska much more mean.
“Come, boys. I’m taking you to a very special hunting place today. Today we’re hunting a little old human lady. She should be nice and slow for you to catch, and even more fun when we rip her limb from limb and listen to those satisfying screams,” Saska said. His boys smiled.
They went over to the old lady’s house and tried to sneak in. There was a noise making device on the outside house and it started blasting once one of the tigers set off a trip wire.
“What do we do?” One of the kittens asked.
“Run! Before she calls for more humans to come,” another kitten screeched.
“I say we shred her to pieces then leave causally, as we did nothing wrong. We hunt for sport just like them,” the third kitten said proudly and standing tall.
“That’s correct,” Saska said and smiled. They searched the house for the old lady and Saska found her in the kitchen, boiling what looked like soup in a large pot.
“Boys, come here. I found her,” Saska shouted and Saska and his kittens surrounded the old lady.
“I know who you are, Saska, and I know your reputation,” the old lady said and smiled.
“Then you must know that we’re here to eat you,” Saska growled in an attempt to frighten the old lady.
“You don’t frighten me. Not in the least. That’s why I’ve prepared this feast. I’ve been expecting you. To bad for you that you didn’t run when you heard my alarms. They weren’t for me to call for backup, they were a warning for you,” the old lady said.
“Oh really. Boys, let’s take this haggard, crazy old lady down,” Saska said and smiled.
The old lady dipped her soup ladle into the bowl, filling it with the viscous substance inside, and poured it all over Saska and his three shrewd cubs. They all turned into a new species of flowers.
“Oh, how pretty! I think I’ll call them… Tiger Lily's,” the old witch cackled. She planted them in her garden, and every year more and more grew.
And that’s where Tiger Lilys come from.
