A gravity well opened between them, the suddenness and power too vast to comprehend.

The Hivemind stood, unyielding, and discarded the marine into the darkness. Gunnarsson felt like a tethered ship in a maelstrom on Titan, a drop amongst Titanic waves.

He thought life ended in a rush of DMT analogs to ease passing, but no mosaic of memory greeted him as the cytoplasm of his cells boiled. Beneath and beside the unimaginable pain existed nothing but opaqueness…until.

Images flashed furiously across his mind. Thousands, then, millions of lives extinguished. He watched marines die under Olympus Mons, a destroyer above Luna succumbing to the swarm’s overwhelming force, and the coming invasion of Earth itself, all as his body collapsed under the Hive’s indomitable will.

How can we survive against such power?

But no…Gunnarsson did not simply watch. He pulled their alien triggers and tore humans apart with tentacled limbs. He felt their corporeal blood and neurons connecting first to the Hivemind, then spiderwebbing across the solar system–binding us all.

“You got one thing wrong,” He said through gritted teeth. The Hivemind stood upon the precipice, and the marine swore he saw a flash of concern.

Gunnarsson smiled and did what tethered ships in storms do best.

“I’m no drone. I’m a Goddamn Marine,” he bellowed and wrenched the Hivemind’s tethers down into the infinite darkness.

Ooh - so does each stand alone, or does this one follow the others? I was getting some warhammer vibes here!
