Twilight of Ares - Episode One

“400 out.”

The cockpit comms crackled to life, replacing the silence of deep space.

Given the choice between flying this can and getting spaced, Gunnarsson would hit the airlock control himself.

“Contacts. Scope’s painted red.”

“Stay sharp. 300.”

He imagined Rodriguez praying next to him. Whatever keeps you breathing kid.

“Aye Cap. Lancers coming off port. Watch their ions.”

“Escorts down. 150 – shit target lock.”

Damn, they didn’t last long. Wasted hardware.

“Shaking.”

“Too late, ordnance released.”

“Hang on lads, hard braking burn.”

“50–”

The shuttle bucked below him, and Gunnarsson barely tensed before the spin G’s knocked him out.
