A half-timbered house. Top Story - October 2026.
In the afternoon, the heat upstairs is unbearable. So you’re here, sitting on a couch downstairs. You don’t know where you got this couch from, and you don’t want to know. You appreciate it. You don’t care about the black spots, the yellow stains, or the faded color. You’re just tired of the sunlight all the way back from school. A smell of something dead hits your nose. “A rat?” You keep sniffing, but the smell fades away. Now you’re staring at this damp wooden door instead, the same door you have to push hard to close. Your father said it’s swollen because of the rain. He said a lot about wood. And bricks. And the ceiling.

The Final Words. Top Story - October 2026.
My time has come. After 114 years on this mortal coil, I can feel it deep down in my bones. I’m bedridden and unable to move. My eyesight is slipping as is my hearing. I’ve been in this bed for so long that I welcome this eternal transition that’s about to happen to me.

Sea. Top Story - October 2026.
The body was still floating at sea. That’s all they were now; the body. A body. The world had eroded so long ago, so violently, there didn’t seem any point to keep up with the charade of names, and sexes, and distinctions. They were just a body now, with bits on the outside and bits on the inside, lying in a boat, in the middle of the world long since gone.

Your first 24 hours on my rock by the sea . Top Story - October 2026.
Hey you! Yes, YOU! This rock you see in the photo before you? It belongs to ME! My family and I discovered it while exploring an untamed, island wilderness east of New York City. The Atlantic island we traversed was largely unpeopled (or at least unsettled by Spinellis).
