The Congo Basin is one of the largest tropical rainforests in the world. There is a hot climate, abundant rainfall, and abundant animal and plant resources. Every year, forest expeditions and delegations from dozens of countries and regions come here for expeditions and investigations. Some foreign scientific research institutions have also set up perennial research stations here.

The Italian Wildlife Conservation Society's research station is located in the jungle near Carlisle, an important town in eastern Congo. Chiesa and Penino are two members of the research station, and they have been here for almost two years. They track rhinos, wild elephants, observe baboons and chimpanzees, and film spectacular scenes of monkeys hunting and preying... While they are attracted by the diverse wildlife population here, they also fall deeply in love with this quaint and mysterious land.

One day in late March, Chiesa and Penino left the observation station with simple daily necessities and equipment, and went to the Monica Valley, more than 20 kilometers away, to observe the living habits of several populations of chimpanzees. To get a complete set of data, they had to stay in the jungle for a week or two of continuous observation. One afternoon, it rained in the jungle and the road was very muddy. They decided not to go back to the research station, set up a tent on a flat field on the edge of the jungle, ate something and went to sleep.

At night, the roar of lions could be heard in the distance, which was the most exciting and moving episode from the hunting ground. Coupled with the roar of chimpanzees fighting for territory, the murmur of rhinos calling for their companions, the long hiss of zebras, the bark of hyenas... constitute a symphony unique to the jungle at night. All of this, for Chiesa and Penino, has long been commonplace. The howls of various beasts have become their indispensable lullaby every night. After a while, they fell asleep soundly amid this one after another singing.

Early the next morning, Chiesa was awakened by a "chirping" bird call. He opened his eyes and saw that it was already dawn, and his companion Penino was still snoring like thunder. Chiesa thought that Penino must have been too tired yesterday, so he asked him to sleep a little longer, and got up first to fetch water by the border. Chiesa stretched his waist, and suddenly found that his legs were entangled in something. At first, he thought it was his trousers twisted on it. When he lifted the sheet, he couldn't help being surprised, and saw a big boa constrictor about six or seven meters long wrapped around his legs. Its back is dark red, and scales the size of fingernails are scattered. The thickest part of its body is at least 40 centimeters in diameter, and as it extends forward to the neck, it gradually thins down: the large flat head is like a giant bucket, tightly attached to his leg. The tiger stripes on the head are visible, and a pair of large, eerie eyes gleam with greedy light. Chiesa moved tentatively, trying to pull his legs out, but did not want to provoke the boa constrictor. I saw it raise its head and aim its bloody mouth at Chiesa's head. The stench in the boa constrictor's mouth immediately made him breathless, and the blood-red letter almost touched the tip of his nose with a shake. Chiesa was so frightened that he instinctively stretched out his hands to choke the boa constrictor's neck. At this time, the boa constrictor began to wrap upwards, gradually wrapping his legs around his chest. The boa constrictor kept "inflating" its body, huge force waves rolled up and down its body, and Chiesa's face was flushed. He gritted his teeth and pressed against the giant python's fighting head to prevent it from pressing down, while shouting in a weak voice: "Penino, save me..."

Penino, who was in a daze, heard Chiesa's cry for help, and thought he was talking in his sleep, and suddenly opened his eyes, not surprised. Penino jumped up, trying to find a satisfactory weapon, but there was nothing in the tent except for the equipment to observe the animals and the bracket to support the camera. He instinctively picked up the three-legged bracket and smashed it hard at the python, but like hitting a sponge, the bracket bounced back immediately. The python was not damaged, but the bracket was smashed to pieces. The python became even more furious, and its tail swept over, sweeping Penino to the ground, and the tent was overturned, causing a mess everywhere.

Penino immediately climbed out of the tent and ripped it apart, then picked up a scattered bracket from the ground and smashed it into the python's mouth. As soon as the python closed its mouth, the bracket fell off Penino's hand. With no weapon in his hand, he turned around the python, but he didn't know how to start. At this time, the python's body had wrapped around Chiesa's neck and rolled on the ground with him. Chiesa just grabbed the python's neck tightly with his hands and didn't dare to relax in the slightest.

In the midst of the crisis, Penino suddenly found the nylon rope on the tent and had an idea. He hurriedly untied the nylon rope and wrapped the python around its neck, trying to drag the python into the woods. But the python was thick, heavy, and extremely powerful, and with a little effort, it brought Penino to the ground.

Just when Penino felt helpless, he heard Chiesa say intermittently in a weak voice: "Quick, go... find someone..."

Penino was reminded. He was about to move, but soon stopped again. Because he saw Chiesa's inability to do what he wanted, he thought that once he left here, the python would definitely swallow Chiesa. In a hurry, he wrapped the nylon cable around the python's neck a few times to prevent Chiesa from being swallowed by the python, and then ran down the mountain.

Due to the long time he had been entangled by the python, the lower half of Chiesa's body was completely numb. The blood all over his body rushed straight to his forehead, his scalp was supported by the swollen blood vessels, and his whole body seemed to be squeezed into a narrow stone crevice. The pain was unbearable, his chest felt suffocated, his throat felt like smoke, and his vision became more and more numb. Blurred - but the hands that were holding the python's neck and his life infra didn't dare to relax for a moment. Because his mind is very clear, as long as he lets go, he will undoubtedly become a giant python with a hearty breakfast... At this moment, he thought of his wife Mariana and son little Anton in Genoa, a coastal city in northwestern Italy. Two weeks ago, he promised his son on the phone that he would take him to the sea amusement park when he went back this Christmas... For the sake of my wife and son, I can't die, I want to live, I must live!

After a brief silence, the thirsty python seemed to have no patience. It was full of energy again, and there were force waves all over its body. The nylon ropes that Penino tied to its neck before leaving were all broken at once. Chiesa, who was at the end of his life, was really powerless to compete with it. He could only hear a few "chirps", his ribs were broken, and a sharp pain hit him. His eyes turned black and his scalp swelled, and the hand that grabbed the python's neck trembled unconsciously. He knew that he was about to lose it. Can't hold on anymore. However, whenever he had the idea of giving up, it seemed that a voice said in his ear: Chiesa, the rescue will come soon, you can't be discouraged, you must hold on, hold on, persistence is victory!

In order to save his partner, Penino ran down the mountain non-stop. As he ran, he shouted loudly: "Come on, help, help!" On the rough mountain road, he fell and his nose was blue and his face was swollen. The branches and thistles of the yaya branch hooked his clothes from time to time, cutting his hands and face, and he didn't care about it. He only had one thought, which was to quickly find someone and rescue Chiesa.

Suddenly, there was a "wow" sound in the woods ahead. He fixed his eyes and was surprised. It turned out that a cheetah was catching the monkeys in the tree. The monkeys made a "sizzling" sound to the cheetah under the tree. The cheetah looked at the tree for a while, turned its head, found him, and stopped immediately! As a zoologist, he knew all too well the habits of beasts. If he continued to run, the cheetah thought he was afraid and would chase him without a doubt, and Penino had to slow down. He picked up a rock from the ground and prepared for the worst.

Just then, he suddenly saw a mountain jeep parked at the foot of the mountain, where two people in Hyland shirts were resting. Penino no longer cared about the cheetah behind him, and ran down the mountain while calling for help.

Below are two expedition members from the Danish Forest Expedition, one of whom is Bengerson, a well-known Danish zoologist, who is taking a gift car to prepare to return to the operation team. Hearing Penino's cry for help, they hurriedly put Penino in the car and drove quickly towards the accident site.

When they arrived at the camp, how could there be any shadows of Chiesa and the python? However, seeing that tents, bedding and instruments were everywhere, Chiesa must be in trouble, and Penino was so anxious that he cried on the spot.

They searched around for a while, and soon found the python in the nearby grass. They saw that its belly was bulging high and its movement was very slow. Chiesa was undoubtedly swallowed by it! Fortunately, there was a tranquilizer gun on the mountain bike, and they were busy anesthetizing the python. Then Bengerson cut open the python's belly with a knife and quickly dragged Chiesa, who was covered in digestive juice, out of the python's belly.

Seeing that Chiesa was still breathing weakly, they hurriedly carried Chiesa to the car at the foot of the mountain, and when he was about to be taken to the International Committee of the Red Cross Hospital in the nearby town of Carlisle for rescue.

After three days and three nights in a coma, Chiesa finally woke up.

After more than three months of treatment, Chiesa's body basically recovered. It's just that due to being entangled by the python for too long, his lower limbs are completely unconscious, and he can only rely on a wheelchair to walk and move. His skin also lost a layer of skin all over his body due to long-term friction with the scales on the python's body. Moreover, the exposed part of the body appeared numb spots due to the corrosion of the python's digestive juice, but despite this, he was very optimistic. He said that he was very lucky to be able to survive the rest of his life and survive the disaster. According to expert analysis, when pythons devour other animals, they usually entangle their prey until the prey suffocates and dies. Before being devoured by the python, Chiesa, with his tenacious will and firm belief, fought to the death with the python, buying time for his companion Penino to go down the mountain to call for help. Because the python swallowed Chiesa for a short time, and when the python swallowed Chiesa, a small amount of air was brought into its stomach, which made Chiesa survive even though he was trapped in the python's belly. This incident tells us: In a desperate situation, no matter how difficult it is, don't lose confidence. As long as you grit your teeth, persevere, persevere, and persevere, you will be able to overcome difficulties and gain vitality!
