There is a mountain on Earth that expands and contracts like the stomach of a large animal caught in an endless slumber. The location of this geographical wonder is unknown, but the location is irrelevant.

What’s relevant, is how.

For as long as time has existed, two cosmic entities have traversed our universe. They're known as Creation and Destruction. Creation is a mass of green cosmic energy, and Destruction red. The purpose of these cosmic entities is to govern the cosmic balance.

Upon discovery of a new planet, it is Creation’s purpose to spread its life-affirming green energy to lay the foundations of a new life cycle. Its emerald waves radiate over the vast circumference of barren worlds so life can grow, evolve, and thrive.

The purpose of Creation is life.

Destruction has a far more deadly purpose.

Upon discovery of a planet with life, it's the purpose of Destruction to spread its deadly red energy to take life away.

The purpose of Destruction is death.

Thousands upon thousands of years ago the two entities discovered a barren planet of rich greens and beautiful blues now known as Earth. It was a premier planet that begged for life. Creation fulfilled its purpose and made it one of the most beautiful and complex ecosystems ever seen.

Earth was born and thrived—for better and for worse.

Thousands upon thousands of years passed, with many planets created and destroyed. The cosmic entities then found themselves in the presence of this beautiful world once more.

It was time for Destruction to realize its purpose.

As the entity prepared to unleash a tirade of red energy upon these beautiful creatures, it took pause. All the death and ruin that had driven Destructions sole purpose, made it question why this had to be.

Why did a thriving community of people, creatures and organisms need vanquishing?

Destruction refused to annihilate the creatures of Earth and ignore the very purpose of its existence. Creation became furious with this defiance, having known nothing but their natural order for so long. It was a betrayal of the cosmic reality and Creation was not going to ignore it.

Creation warned Destruction not to defy, and to fulfil the purpose for which it was created. Destruction refused, deciding to let the life that had flourished on Earth continue.

Creation gave no more warning as it readied itself to do what Destruction refused. The energy that swirled inside its spectral shell morphed from emerald green to deadly ruby red. Destruction watched in horror at what was about to befall this planet. Destruction acted fast and did something not even it knew it could – it created.

Destruction scanned the Earth and saw all the creatures that had evolved throughout the planet's life cycle. From the tiniest organism to the largest and most ferocious beasts wandering the wilderness. The images of life all blurred together until it decided to summon a creature of its own doing, a creature Destruction named Titan.

In this final act of defiance, Titan emerged from the energy of Destruction. A large creature of spectral white light that took the form of a polar bear with one fundamental difference. The bear brandished two large antlers on its head, like the ones found on the heads of wild stags. Destruction ordered the animal to vanquish Creation and put an end to this act of extinction. Titan roared a thunderous sound that sent a shock wave into the depths of space. Creation found itself frozen in fear and disappointment as Titan lunged towards it.

Creation succumbed to the attack and ceased to exist.

Destruction watched the last flecks of green energy dissipate into the blackness, then realized his red energy was doing the same. The creation of Titan had torn Destruction’s spectral shell in half. As the red energy faded faster into darkness, Destruction gave Titan one last command. One that the beast would obey for all eternity.

Titan’s sole purpose was to protect Earth from total annihilation.

With the last remnants of its being, Destruction shrunk Titan down and plunged it into an eternal slumber. The sleep would only break upon the second coming of either Creation, or Destruction.

Titan lay down upon a vastly isolated spot on Earth and time passed with no hint of danger. The ground rose up against its enormous body, and grass covered the spectral white energy that made up its being. Time continued to pass as Earth swallowed Titan and the two become the same. The location became marked by the two giant antlers that protruded out like two magnificent oak trees that stretched far into the heavens.

With each breath Titan took the ground would rise and fall, neither cracking the surface nor disrupting the life that flocked to its marvel.

Titan serves as a reminder that life on Earth is safe.

But the mountain that moves serves as a reminder that one’s purpose may not be all that it seems.

A purpose in this world is one that you create yourself.
