The Story of the Scary Witch who Saved the Village
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled deep in the enchanted forest, there lived a scary witch named Hazel. With her long, tangled hair, crooked nose, and a cackling laugh that sent shivers down everyone's spines, the villagers feared her. They believed she used her magic for evil and avoided her at all costs. Little did they know that Hazel had a heart full of kindness and a desire to help others.
One day, news spread throughout the village that the beloved king had fallen gravely ill. The villagers were distraught, for they loved their king dearly. Desperate for a solution, they gathered in the village square, discussing what could be done. Suddenly, a voice echoed through the crowd, "I can help the king!" It was Hazel, the scary witch, stepping forward with determination in her eyes.

Despite their fear, the villagers listened as Hazel explained her plan. She would brew a special potion using rare herbs and magical ingredients to cure the king's illness. With cautious hope, they agreed to give her a chance. Days turned into nights as Hazel toiled tirelessly, brewing the potion with all her might. Finally, the day arrived when the potion was ready. With trembling hands, she presented it to the king, who was weak and pale. Miraculously, the king's health began to improve, and soon he was back on his feet, ruling the kingdom with renewed strength.
Word of Hazel's heroic act spread like wildfire throughout the village. The once-scary witch had become their savior, their hero. The villagers realized that appearances could be deceiving and that true heroes could come in unexpected forms. From that day forward, Hazel was no longer feared but respected and loved by all. And as for Hazel, she continued to use her magic for good, helping those in need and proving that sometimes, the scariest-looking witches can have the kindest hearts.

A Flower Song
Apparently the Aztecs, Toltecs, Chichimecs and other Mexica were crazy about poetry. Despite the book-burning, slaughter, and epidemics that characterized the early stages of the Spanish conquest of the empires of Mexico, some hundreds of poems from the height of their tradition come down to us in Classical Nahuatl, preserved by Nahua and Spanish scholars of the 16th century. One of the most famous poets, Nezahualcoyotl, was a sage-king who opposed the cult of human sacrifice associated with Tezcatlipoca, God of the Smoking Mirror, and favored Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent. Flowers and feathers were the favorite offering of the Plumed Serpent. Moreover, flowers and feathers are a metaphor for poetry. Individual words, scattered petals, the down of tropical birds. The temples of blood sacrifice could be transformed into temples of flower and song. A sublimated offering to the Heart of Earth and the Heart of Sky encapsulated in the Classical Nahuatl kenning for poetry: in xōchitl in cuīcatl, meaning, "the flower and the song."
