The "Emergence" of the Dragons

Hellspawn from within!

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In fact, for many years, it was the most serene location. This would be the destination for any person looking to escape from society while looking for a little piece of untouched nature. It was populated with a tremendous amount of trees and ground cover. Not only was it tranquil, but it was also lush with wildlife. You wouldn't know this now by the current state of events. At first, we thought the wildfires were the effects of global warming, but it was hell on earth unleashed. During these last few months, the ground had split, and there was an outpouring that can only be described as devil hellspawn being released from within the earth.

These giant behemoths took a foothold from the exposed crevice gaping from the earth's mantle. We have global satellite footage of the "emergence," as we have learned to call it. The event began in August and lasted a fortnight. It was as if the earth had birthed these monsters as a way to rid the surface of the parasites. As many believe, the parasites are the Earth's inhabitants, known as humanity.

Gone are the wildlife, which can only be attributed to the dragons' voracious appetites. As far as the eye can see, the earth is scorched, and the valley is on fire. Whatever signs of life there once were, have been replaced by a population of snarling beasts with the propensity to claim whatever territory they feel belongs to them. We were all apprehensive that dragonkind might start to migrate while scorching everything they encounter. The only thing currently preventing the migration are the barricades at each valley opening. The authorities are beginning to worry as many dragons show signs of developing/growing wings.

As someone tasked to live amongst these beasts, Roger Walters had set up a mobile operation not far from the focal point of the "emergence." His number one goal was to find out what makes these creatures tick and what weaknesses these creatures had. In the short amount of time since his assignment began, he had learned a great deal about the dragons but was currently unsure if these monsters had any Achilles heels.

To the best of Roger's estimations, he figured there were no less than 1500 creatures inhabiting the valley at the current time. Roger noted their insatiable hunger and the fact that they were omnivores. This explained the non-existent wildlife and lack of vegetation in this location. The continued raging fires weren't helping the situation either. It was only a matter of time before these dragons would have to move from this location to forage for new food sources. It made Roger wonder, would humans become part of the menu?

Also of note, the dragons possessed the need to expel fire. From what Roger could ascertain, each creature had this need to relieve pressure from within. It seemed to be a natural, almost flatulent response. He also recorded that each dragon seemed to be immune to any fire. Their outer skin proved to be the ultimate fire-proof surface in all situations. In many cases, they could breathe fire but were not prone to the fire's or other dragon's fire-breathing adverse effects. They were the ultimate fire-starters and eating machines.

The dragon's skin was fireproof, but it also seemed to be somewhat impervious to all forms of firearms. Roger had an encounter with an overly curious dragon, which ended with emptying his rifle into the smaller creature's body. Given this was a dragon youngling, Roger was amazed to find the dragon merely shrugged off the firearm as an annoyance. The youngling continued to advance toward Roger while taking out a piece of his shoulder during the confrontation. At this time, the youngling, not unlike a shark, broke off the engagement and moved on. Of course, Roger had seen better days and needed immediate medical attention. This was the first of his many encounters during his first few days in the Valley. None of this changed the fact he was there to find a way to stop these invaders!
