Lucky Star - The Steampunk Star
“Now remember, Lucky, the Stars are the Universe’s last line of defense. And that the galaxies do NOT deserve the Stars.” Wishing, my tutor was strong with her choice of words that even her posture was in-line with her tone of voice. And this is the first time I have ever heard her speak like this. Normally she is mild tempered and gentle with her words, but today she has made an exception.

Three Perspectives
“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” - George Bernard Shaw Emily sat at the table, slowly stirring her coffee. What had happened the previous evening had left her more than restless throughout the long night. This morning, she was weary, her nerves frayed and her thoughts jumbled. She had not expected the reaction she’d received when she’d told Joshua she was leaving him and taking Zoe with her. She had expected an angry, belligerent man, but all she had witnessed instead was a seemingly broken and distraught one. The amazement on his face had not lied: he was stunned. She had watched as he’d slowly lowered himself into the sofa’s cushion, his head in his hands, and begun to weep. Despite the seriousness of the moment, a grimace of a smile had graced her lips as she steeled herself and thought, “Crocodile tears. There is no way he still loves me.”

Ancient Awakenings
There weren't always dragons in the valley. They didn't always flourish and have a common presence like they do now. At least, not like they did in the ancient days. Now days, they were very much alive and breathing. But alas, I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Orion Matthews. I am 16 years old and I live outside of a town called Lancaster. For the most part, i'm your typical 16 year old guy. I go to a normal high school, have normal friends and do normal things. That's me..Mr. Predicable and normal. Nothing extraordinary had ever happened to me a day in my life. That was....until I turned 17. I need to start at the beginning to try to explain everything. Even then, you probably won't even believe me. That's ok though, you will eventually.

The Scarlet Phoenix
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Our great elders swear by the fable we teach our youth that recounts the tale of The Scarlet Phoenix who led our weyr to the valley after the crumble of Ziahrah. It may be difficult to envision now, but shortly before Kinsleigh and I found Archer we called the westernmost meadow on Ziahrah home.

I Am A Dragon Killer
There weren't always dragons in the valley. It used to be a trade route. The King's gold flowed freely down the river Acheron, and then it didn't. Even from the mountaintops I could see the glitter of the dragon's hoard. And now, I stand in the middle of it. King's gold, Myrian gold, Askan silver, jewels of every shade and color.

Fools and Sages
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. They arrived before I was born about three decades prior to my birth. Galya Farja was a peaceful place before that, or so I’ve heard. They say the dragons came because the people were too sinful, too self-indulgent, too savage. The Metanoia people were the ones who lived here before but now they are called Drearians by the Benin people. The Benins showed up a little before the dragons. The Benins blame the sinful savageness of the Drearians for the dragons’ arrival. This is what we are all taught in school from the first day to the last. I was raised by my father, the head of agriculture of the valley. My mother was a Drearian, and she was killed in an accident right after I was born, so they say. My father and her never married, he married his own kind and had my half-sister, Tamar. I’m a half-breed and there is only so much my father’s power can get me. I work at the pub in town. Alcohol is forbidden and I don’t mind that, we serve cider mostly and other drinks. It’s mostly just a place for all the Benin men to come after work to avoid their boring lives at home. The Benin women do not come to the pub. Drearian women do though, along with the Drearian men.

Northern Fire
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Now people are used to their existence. It was a weekly occurrence that there would be a village scorched or a guard swept away in large claws. But only five years ago there was not a single dragon. I should know, as I helped in their coming back.
