Where the Sea Meets Once upon a time near a seaside town in New Jersey, a young boy named Lucas, at the tender age of 12, met a captivating girl named Emily, who was 17 and wise beyond her years. Their friendship blossomed under the warm sunsets by the sea, and Lucas couldn't help but develop a deep crush on her. They kept meeting with each other and called each other with nicknames ‘Luke’ and ‘Daisy’ (without telling their real names). They met every day, had conversations, and watched the sunset together while sitting on the warm sand.

A 1970 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside – it used to be a bright, golden red. A colour to rival the sunset. It was my Daddy’s favourite car, and my Mama’s favourite colour.

Being cradled in Ed's arms distracted me enough to make the pain bearable. Feeling the light overhead begin to sting my eyes I buried my face against his chest. While doing so, I took the chance to bite down on my lower lip to keep from screaming. Feeling Ed's heartbeat pound in my ear comforted me. With my eyes closed all I could see is Nurse Ratchet grinning down at me with a dull rusted scalpel in hand.

I take my time walking back to Alexandre’s inn. Skirting the main roads but staying close enough to keep my bearings. If nothing else, it gives me time to think. The last week has been all over the place for me. On the one hand, I’ve been able to reconnect with Alice, who I haven’t gotten to see since my family left Atlanta six years ago. But on the other hand, someone likely high up in the Atlanta government put a pretty hefty bounty on me and my family. We still don’t know why. We still don’t know who.
