The snowfall was increasing, and the distance of clear visibility was rapidly diminishing. Ellie was anxious, whining to be off leash so she could frolic in the snow, but I saw the coyotes before she did which forced me to immediately increase the tension on her leash.

The Perfect Stick
Ellie pounced first. The puppy stand-off was rounding its third dramatic minute, and Ellie couldn’t take anymore suspense. Lunging low, Ellie was able to scoop the three foot tree branch from the snow, kicking up excess chunks of soft ice in Lucy’s face as she happily hopped in the opposite direction. Lucy instantly felt disrespected, so she acted on instinct and chased after Ellie until she was able to get her incisors securely latched onto the opposite end of the icey branch.

The Return
The dragonling lay on my chest. No longer curled, but lying pitifully on one side, irridescent green flank heaving. I'd discarded my t-shirt, since his scales had cooled so much they no longer burned. I hoped the warmth of my own body might help to stop him cooling even further. He's dying.

Preacher's Daughter: Chapter 2
Rachael finished eating at the lasagna that her sister had made for dinner, apparently Dawn had tried her hand in cooking dinner, which turned out to be lasagna, which was one of those meals that was a little confusing to make and if you did it wrong you could mess it up. And Dawn was a master of messing things up, the lasagna was cooked for way too long and the sauce had all of the liquid evaporated from it and the pasta itself was so burnt that she swore she was trying to eat a charcoal brisket. She tossed the plate of lasagna aside and noticed a raccoon out in the backyard scrounging around for some scraps of food. She took the plate of lasagna and slid the door open, as she did the raccoon stood on its hind legs in anticipation of some tasty treat.
