Stitch: The lore of Sara Foxgrave.
Sara didn’t even know why she went out there that morning. She told herself it was just curiosity, just wanting to see how far the construction crew had gotten on the new house, but really it was because she hadn’t come back here since she returned. Not once. The old willow tree still hunched over the hill like it was guarding Lake Downing, its branches rattling in the cold wind, whispering the same secrets they used to whisper when she and Birdi climbed it and pretended they were queens of the whole damn world. The lake hadn’t changed at all. But she had. It felt smaller now, or maybe she did.

Sense and Sensibility Movie Review
Sense and Sensibility, one of Jane Austen’s best-known stories, has been adapted many times through the decades; most notably as a 1995 classic and then a 2008 mini-series. Newcomer director Georgia Oakley has produced a third rendition; it’s an admirable production that sits below its superior predecessors.

Presumption of a Bold Girl
Think of the 1960s, a time of racial tension and riots in the streets. Your school has lockdowns with police stationed at the doors. You see the Disciples motorcycle gang roll up outside the school. You know they are a feared biker gang of black riders, and that they came from Chicago to see what’s up in your little town. Your small town is five miles up the road from the State Penitentiary, where you assume some of their buddies currently reside. You watch as they slowly circle the high school on their bikes, just observing. You wonder if they are silently daring the police to come at them - to cross the line. Imagine your fear of them as an impressionable high schooler - you don’t know violence except in movies like Easy Rider, Hells Angels on Wheels , and The Born Losers .

Bombing Nagasaki
You Are Here challenge: Prompt - Write a story entirely in second person that puts the reader somewhere they aren't supposed to be. Second person puts the reader inside the story. You don't watch someone else cross a line. You do. Write a story entirely in second person that puts "you" somewhere you aren't supposed to be. Maybe you've wandered into the wrong room, shown up where you weren't invited, crossed a boundary you didn't know was there, or found yourself in a situation you have no business being part of. Wherever you end up, make the second-person perspective matter. Use "you" to close the distance between the reader and the story, and make that feeling of being somewhere you shouldn't be impossible to shake.

Stitch:The Alpine Crimson
The biting, sub‑zero wind howling across the Swiss Alps didn’t just freeze the skin; it carved straight into the bone. For miles in every direction, the landscape was a blinding, desolate canvas of white and jagged grey peak. The winter air was so thin it felt like breathing shattered glass, carrying nothing but the lonely roar of the wind and the constant threat of an avalanche.

The Bloom of Broadfen
The Bloom of Broadfen The frost of January did not merely descend upon the parish of Broadfen; it paralysed the landscape, blanching the thatch of the cottages and hardening the deep ruts of the sheep lanes into unyielding ridges. It had been a season of unbroken misery. A spiteful summer had ruined the wheat, leaving the ears bitter and sour. Now the grim hold of winter was stealing the last gristle of life from the village. The cold had cut slowly, like the paring iron Old Creech used to shave the leather when the parish had had cattle. It did not merely chill; it altered the framework of the flesh. It froze the breath in the throat until the lungs felt still as wicker and locked the joints of the labourers into rigid, unnatural angles that no fire could warm. When the frail, or elderly, succumbed in their beds, they bypassed the ease of sleep, hardening instantly into the likeness of grey stone.

How to Eat Stone Soup
1936 was your hungriest year. You had nowhere to go, so you went everywhere. You spent it wandering from city to town, through villages to farmland. You reached the West Coast of the Dominion of Canada and returned to the East, following some rumour, some hope, in the opposite direction. You wandered for 6 years. You walked almost six thousand miles, twice. Jumping aboard train wagons was for younger men, more desperate men and there were thousands of them. The prairies stretched out endlessly before you and then ended. Mountain passes opened in April or May and closed in September. You walked from season into season. You patched the soles of your shoes with layers of newspaper or pieces of cardboard.
