No Iron in the Mushroom Circle
Large white mushrooms grew in a perfect circle at the edge of Sylvia's lawn. She cut the power to the lawnmower, wiped sweat off her brow with the back of her hand, and stepped closer. Sure, she'd seen mushrooms like this in the area before. And there must be a rational explanation for them growing in a circle. Her imagination drew her irresistibly closer anyway.

The Hunters and The Hunted
Meet Marty “Theresa Holland, here. Live on the scene of the Giacomo House where authorities arrived after several gunshots were reported,” a young redhead stood before a news camera in front of a lavish Great Neck, Long Island home. The flashing lights of police vehicles and an ambulance could be seen behind her. “According to sources shots were fired by Nicole Giacomo, wife of the alleged Crime Boss, Onofrio Giacomo. It is rumored that the altercation was over an affair Mr. Giacomo was carrying on with a close friend of his wife. When the alleged perpetrator found out, she cornered the lover’s and opened fire.” The camera panned out to get a full shot of the house as the body bag was wheeled out. “From what it looks like,” the camera focused back on Theresa, “there is one dead and Nicole Giacomo has fled the scene.” A picture of a young woman came on the screen.

The Wudu Hollows
This is my last challenge in the Bardiché trials, to become a Kairu Mystic. Suffice it to say, because of this task, heat of trepidation boils to the surface of my flesh. It is the only undertaking, thus far, in which I have little to no control over the outcome. Either the ancestors will find me worthy, or they won’t. I relinquish the burden of worry, to the universe.

Forgotten Bull
It was a warm summer day when I saw the bull. He was a massive, black bull with huge horns that looked deadly if they were pointed at a person. He looked at me and I could see into his eyes. They were a warm, deep brown that reminded me of a dark oak wood. I tried to look away but couldn’t, it was as if he were trying to tell me something that I could not understand. A message from the gods, perhaps. Then it happened.
