Dragon Trials. Top Story - June 2022.
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Dragons only ever migrated down from the Star Reaches when the winter cold reached its peak, which was around every three years. No one was quite sure why the winters ran in cycles like this, from a misting chill in our long safe valley to the cold Freeze where the snow would creep down the very slopes of the Star Reaches, and even begin to invade the gentle swamps that gave us most of our food and colour.

Fire
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Things used to be simple. But they’re here now. Dragons, of course, being the new drug dealers in town. Aptly named for the “Fire” they sell—a newly-created drug that, in addition to some very pleasant (and a few unpleasant) mental and physical effects, allows the consumer to breathe fire.

Where did that thought come from? ”A dragon?” Noble couldn’t get his sluggish brain to work. He felt like he had been run over by a truck. “A truck?” he questioned, foggily. Somehow he did know about the incongruent concepts of trucks and dragons but could not get past the pain. Every square inch of his body cried out in agony. As he tried to relieve the cramping in his shoulders, he realized he couldn’t move a muscle and a mudslide of dread and comprehension seeped into his mind.

The Mirror Guard (chapter 3)
Three: One Day in the Stark THE STARK SEEMED TWENTY DEGREES COLDER THAN THE CITY. The snow was deep, which made traveling slow and taxing. The gusts came in waves, but when they came they were frigid. The Stark was nothing but snow and ice. Nothing grew out here except for a few short trees that had adapted to the harsh environment. Depending on the drifts, the trees were there, and then they were gone.

The Fall
Azazel marched at Lucifer’s side followed by a number of angels so large that the stamp of their feet and the beating of their wings drowned out all other noise, and his confidence had steadily been growing. Their rebellion might actually succeed. But once he saw what waited for them in the city of heaven, his confidence wavered. Angels crowded every street and hovered in the air so that the city itself could not be seen. The soft glow of the golden streets and the glint of the diamond and pearl buildings were replaced by a shimmering light emanating from the weapons and armor of thousands upon thousands of angels ready for war. Their number easily doubled the size of Lucifer’s own army.

Ben and the Dragon's Pact.
PROLOGUE There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Although there had been occasional roars heard coming from Mt. Cornet in the night. Most of the townsfolk from the trading town Surcoast dismissed it as a den of lions that must’ve moved into the area. Even though signs started to show more frequently, farmer’s cattle started to go missing in the night, claw marks imprinting themselves on the earth, with a roar not far behind. Still, the townsfolk went about their day-to-day routine, trying to ignore the truth they knew in the back of their minds.

From the Pinnacle...
“There weren’t always Dragons in the valley… Hogwash and baulderdash!” Bartholomew waved his hand through the air, dismissing the sentence. “I find it hard to believe, young Pippin, that you could find a more trite, unremarkable, and frankly,” he paused to find the magician in the lecture hall, “...and frankly banal opening line if you were allowed until the equinox for it!” Pippin slid down in his seat, trying to hide his face from the class. The Archmagister raised his chin and paced about the room.
