Project DRAGN
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. What made it worse for Gideon, though, was that he had put them there. He brushed his hand over the fingers of an enormous fern, its waxy green skin echoing the last remnants of afternoon light that managed to weave their way through the dense forest canopy above. Only a few months ago, the ferns had crumbled to dry powder at the same touch. They had also been about seven times smaller. Now they towered over him along with the rest of the plant life, like underbrush for a giant.

Shattered Shields
”There were not always dragons in the Valley. No one had claimed such a thing until the Piandriens were thrust upon our shores. Their witches brought with them lies and tales of monsters to instill fear in us. We will not be afraid.” The king looked pointedly at his nephew, ensuring the boy’s attention remained on him.

Fonlain's Ascent
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Fonlain looked back on those times fondly as what was left for him now in the Valley was a slow approaching but sure death waiting to meet him. He had harbored no hope to escape this fate yet still he climbed through the damp misty woods that crept up the Valley walls in a gradual incline. The aching of his aged joints was only worsened by the bleak conditions of the morning but the pain was a faint raw throb at the back of his mind, this was not the time for pain he’d have time to hurt when he was dead.

A Curse Worse than Death
There weren’t always Dragons in the Valley. They came in and took over like the devil at night; kidnapping children, killing men and women, burning homes. They established a place of power. Taking so many lives and causing even more destruction. That was two years ago. Now they’re everywhere, our streets, our primaries, even our homes. My own brother is a Dragon himself. Now everytime I ask him about it he just says-

The Chosen
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They preferred to rest in the upper reaches of the highest mountains until they were called to serve. The mountain range was wild and they had freedom to roam without worry of discovery, or expending the extra energy that would be needed to turn invisible to the people they were sworn to protect. Even when the rare hiker would stumble across their domain, the world had become so disconnected from its magical origins that claims of dragons were met with disbelief, skepticism, and disdain.

Wynnie's Wyvern
*Author note:- It is important to me when writing stories for a younger audience to be as inclusive as possible. I hope that I have portrayed Wynnie in a positive, affirming way. If for any reason I have missed the mark, please leave a comment so I can address it.

Dragons Intrigue
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. There were fairies and nymphs, the occasional troll or glass man. There were even mermaids that sometimes swam down the stream that cuts through the valley’s center; gathered in the pool at the end and exhibited their exquisite fins. But not dragons. There were stories of them. But no one had ever seen them. Few believed the stories or even continued to tell them anymore. They were myths, fallacies, as magical as a portal to another epoch. And yet the valley was now rampant with them. Dragons were in every corner of the valley, even meandering through the village itself. Those who had kept the stories alive were delighted. Those who had relinquished them were in awe or contempt, maybe a little of both. I had never known what to believe. But sitting on the natural bridge in the southwest corner of the valley with a spectacular view of the valley, the sight sent chills through my bones. The dragons, more brilliantly colored than anything we had ever seen, were everywhere. Their skin was impenetrable and iridescent, the skin itself seemed to be constantly active even when they stood stock still; always putting on a show, unable to come to a rest. As if their skin didn’t put on enough of a performance, their wings were a whole production of their own. Two massive wings, at least double the size of their entire body when fully spread, were barely noticeable and settled across their backs and sides when not in flight. But in addition to these, they had several smaller wings, some only half the size of their flight wings others mere inches wide and as thin as hair. Each dragon's array of wings was different from the next, but all were covered in sleek feathers, unlike the rest of the body. Some wing’s uses had been discerned, swiping away pests, defense, providing shade; while others seemed useless, simply an embellishment.
