Dragonborne
Prologue There weren't always dragons in the valley. Once the children roamed free. Then, the great shadow fell over the plains. The fowl swam silently through the air, as Ryen followed, slowed by a heavy pale of water, she stumbled. Her eyes traced its ascent into the clouds. Her strength gave way. Before her pale reached the ground, the drakgon swooped to within a few feet of it and floated to the ground. Ryen froze.

The Dragon Witch
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. When my great-grandfather was growing up, it was an empty place: a place that children made up stories about, listing countless monsters that must live there beneath the skeletal shadows of long-dead trees. And in my grandmother’s time the monsters were said to be the trees themselves – if you got too close they’d reach out and grab you, pulling you in until you became a gruesome new addition to their branches. I even still have a few memories from when I was very young of tales my parents told to warn my sister and I to stay away, telling us of ancient spirits that hid there, longing to walk among the living again and ready to trick us into exchanging our soul for theirs. I remember peering cautiously out into the thick fog that would creep across the town on cold winter mornings before dashing towards the safety of the glowing light emanating from my mother’s forge, constantly checking behind me for spirits that could have strayed into our town on a day like this.

Dalia the Dragon
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. That is; until Dalia became one. It was a beautiful day. Dalia sat there enjoying the warmth of the sun. She smiled and waved at the neighbors as she always does on her afternoon walks. She rounded the corner to stop at her local and favorite coffee shop. She stopped cold in her tracks as she witnessed the shop being robbed. That is when the glass shattered, and two bullets struck her. One in the head and the other in the heart. She fell backwards. There is a flash of light, and the Sorceress appears.

The Seven Rune Stones
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. That much is true. For there was once a time where nothing magical ever touched this land. It was a peaceful place unknown to much of world. Its lush mountains shielding outsider influence. Time was is its only magic.

On The Retirement of St. George
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Of course, when the dragons first moved in, some fleshier residents in the Homeowners Association had a tumult on the matter. They had heard the tales (just as you have, I am certain) of murderous, ravenous, fire-breathing creatures. These folks in the Association were no bigots, they assured all of us. They just didn’t want to be careless.

The Fringe
There weren't always dragons in the Valley, so to speak, the creatures currently rampaging through L.A could be called dragons. Their skin was rough and scaled. Massive black wings beat the air around them. Small explosions igniting around their bodies. They trailed down the middle of the town toward the city. Expansive fires engulfing the wreckage in their path. I watched from the shed out back. The bottle of pills in my blackened, lanced hands. I plopped down hard on the ground and fished out a single white pill. The scratched-out label on the side said doxycycline. The pill between my fingers had a very different efficaciousness. I put the pill back in the container and walked back into the shed. One last project before the end comes. I plucked out the small leather notebook. This will be the contents of how the end came to be.
