The girl with the Dragon Slayer's sword
Vatra moved through the forest his long body weaving through the trees bending with the grace of a snake. The ease of his movements came from decades spent in the forest. The footfalls of his clawed feet landed soft and soundless on the fallen leaves of approaching winter. Sweat glistened on his scales. His thundering breath heaved in and out of his chest. His heart raced with anticipation. He was close. Closer than any dragon of the Emperors Fireguard had ever been.

Prisoners
A blind toddler sat alone in a forest. He didn’t know where he was or how he had come to be there. The last thing he remembered was lying on a bed of straw in the king’s stables, surrounded by the smell of manure and neighing horses. But when he opened his eyes, although the five-year-old could see only darkness, he knew instantly that he had awoken somewhere else. He could feel the long blades of grass under his body. He could hear the singsong of birds and smell the fresh outside air. This place was unfamiliar to him, foreign.

The Difficulty of Growing Up
The scent of despair on the wind disrupts a methodical morning outing. Raw, subtle, like a haunting song in the distance. Verphiryn stops short and breathes deep – the pheromones are consistent. As easy to track for them as blood in the dirt for any other dragon. But should I? Their search for a site to establish a lair is going poorly this morning, as it has for weeks. A distraction is a great excuse to chalk today up as another loss. But where there is despair, there is need, and what kind of being would Verphiryn be to ignore that need? If this forest is to be theirs, they must look out for anyone within it. They will be neighbours.

An Inconvenient Prophesy
It has been a general rule amongst us dragons to not meddle in the affairs of humans. If you come across a battlefield, walk away. You discover the dead and dying, leave them to their fate. It is what has kept us safe and what has allowed us to achieve some measure of peace. As long as a dragon isn’t foolish enough to take a deal protecting a tower or go idiotically terrorizing human villages, they aren’t likely to send knights to hunt us down.

Out of the Dragon's Den, Into the Void
Mist hangs low in a dark forest, pin-pricked with fires. The air is still, but for the flashes of activity lit in flames. A child slumbers, wrapped in an old blanket. Its small face is ringed with dew in the night air. The baby slumbers peacefully. Screams are heard , gently and far away, barely reaching the sleeping babe. Like a whisper while the little one dreams. A roar bellows in the distance. The air itself begins to move. Trees sway and branches snap. A large shadow presses itself down into the clearing. The mist swirling and churning, as finally the baby awakes and the air goes hauntingly still around it. The babe’s eyelids open slowly; adjusting to the scene. The stars are blocked from its view, and in their place, two menacing and brilliant purple eyes. The child’s own eyes, a swirl of blue and green stare right back into them. The fires have burned down, and not a scream remains. The two creatures study each other. Until finally, the air begins to move again, and with a gentle rumble it’s gone. The moonlight hits the clearing again. Nothing remains of either pair.

Dragon Eats Man
Gorbazon soared across the sky, his majestic wings spread wide, the sunlight sparkling on his many-colored scales, as he searched the forest below for any sign of movement. There! A flicker of yellow in the green, and the sound he’d heard before came to his ears yet again. What is this creature, he wondered, and how tasty might it be? He swooped lower to investigate further.
