Snow one would believe you

With chattering teeth, Mel pulled the covers under her chin.

"Bloody hell!" A shudder raced through her whole body like an earthquake. The covers flew up in a Mexican wave, exposing her bare flesh to the chilly atmosphere outside of the bed.

Her hand whipped out to grab her pyjamas, trying to return with them before they'd even left the cocoon of warmth under the covers.

Making a terrible impression of a human caterpillar, Mel attempted to dress under her duvet. It took roughly triple the time it would have if she'd just womaned up and braved the cold wooden floor of her bedroom.

After scrabbling under the bed, legs still covered, she retrieved her slipper boots, a gift from Gran at Christmas. Protected from the cold, she went to the window and opened the curtains.

"Holy crap, my boss is never going to believe this."

Before her lay at least a metre of snow covering her house, lawn, drive and car. The house on either side was the same, as were the three opposite. But that was it; there was a clinical line of separation. The six houses looked straight out of Narnia, yet those surrounding them were unaffected.

Mel wrenched open the window and was greeted with an eerie silence.

"Hello?" She shouted. The cold swallowed her words, held onto them, and returned nothing.

"What is happening?" She asked the frosty spiderweb that hung still from her window.

There was no sound, nothing.

Where is everyone? She thought.
