Hidden in a dark crevice of the rock she attempts to keep her breathing under control, but try as she might, her breath still gasps frantically. Thunderous in her ears, she is close to screaming in fear.

Footsteps approach hesitantly and she waits, biding her time, desperate to survive.

He whispers her name, adding a chuckle, certain he has her cornered.

She takes a chance; rushing at him and catching him in surprise. She thrusts her arms into his chest, pitching him over the edge and smiles as the wave sweeps him out to sea.

Her courage saves the day!

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'wave'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful idea in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
