MONSTERS SLEEP WITH MOM & DAD

“TSSS-GIRR”

The noise coming from down the hall awaking a sleeping cat named Scaredy, and dog named Stout

“Sc-Scaredy Do you Hear that? It sounds Sc-Scary..” whispered Stout anxiously.

“No Stout, that sounds like a-“ Scaredy exclaimed cut off by Stout.

“Oh No! Don’t say myst-“ Stout said nervously.

“Mystery!” Scaredy said excitedly.

“TSSS-GIRR”

The low pitched noise echoed from a place unknown.

They Tip-Toed out of bed, Stout held flashlight in hand as Scaredy had planned to make their way down the hall.

They creeped and they peeked in every door

Looking for the source of the noise.

“What do you think it is Scaredy?” Stout said looking for clarity.

“It can’t be a ghost they shriek and they scream and never growl, it could be a werewolf though I never heard a howl anyways there’s only a half moon tonight, could be a demon but I don’t believe it.”

Scaredy explained in his detective ways.

“If-if it’s none of those that’s gotta be good right?” Stout asked hopefully hiding behind scaredy.

“On the contrary, it’s Worse.” Scaredy said worried.

“WORSE?! What could be worse” Stout said terrified gripping his chest and about to pass out.

“TSSS-GIRR”

“I think we’re dealing with a good old fashioned case of Monsters Stout. The only question is, which kind? Big and Hairy hiding in the pantry? Think and gangly with fingers waiting to reach from under the bed? Or worst of all small and in multiples of legs and eyes hiding under covers. Then we’d have a monster infestation on our hands Stout.”

“Stout..” Scaredy said questioningly suturing around to see his brothers not behind him anymore.

“Stout where’d ya go? Oh no did the monsters get ya? I told you to stay away from the pantry’s right now!” Scaredy said retracing his steps back down the hall stumbling across his brother laying passed out after taking a fall.

“Stout what are ya doing taking a nap, we’re supposed to be solving a mystery!”

As Scaredy leaned down to wake up his brother he heard a noise coming from him, a faint “TSSS-GIRR”.

“Oh No.. the monsters have infiltrated Stout. They’ve got him. I gotta get out of here.” Scaredy realized as he backed away from his brothers sleeping body.

“I’ll figure out how to stop them brother. I promise!”

Scaredy ran down the hall to his parents room the noise getting louder and louder.

“TSSS-GIRR”

Scaredy ran through the door of his parents room and realized the noise was coming from them. Terrified He ran back out of the room when he saw Stout down the hall waking up.

“Stout! Are you okay?” Scaredy shouted as he ran towards his brother. “What have the monsters done to you??”

“Monsters?” Stout said groggily. “MONSTERS! They-they’re here?!” Stout followed with in fear realizing what was said.

“They had you brother, you were making the noise and we’re laying there lifeless like you were sleeping.” Scaredy said relieved to see his brothers okay “they must have left to find a new host”

“Oh I sure hope they’re gone, I passed out from fear when you started describing what the monster could look like. Did ya see em? What did they look like? Oh don’t tell me I don’t wanna know. I’m just glad they left me alone. They probably didnt like my snoring.”

Stout said with relief the monsters didn’t hurt him.

“Snoring?” Scaredy asked. “Wait a minute..”

scaredy said realizing what the noise was.

“Stout I think the monsters we were hearing were just snores coming from mom and dad.”

They both laughed at how silly their fears were. “We should really quit watching those movies before bed” said Stout.

“You’re probably right.” Replied scaredy.

The Night Before..

“So the monsters got into the houses through the mattresses from the mattress store?” Asked Stout to scaredy as they watched Beneath The Covers.

“Yeah, they started as bugs but soon evolved into children eating menaces when they invested the mattress store. Smart little bugs.”

Replied scaredy

“Good thing we don’t have to be scared of anything like that in real life. You think these horror movies will have any psychological affect on us and scare us over things that aren’t real making us paranoid in everyday life Scaredy?” Stout asked curiously.

“No I think we’ll be okay Stout. We know it’s just made up stories. We’ll never be irrationally scared of our surroundings.” Scaredy said reassuringly.

The End.

Scaredy & Stout is a children’s book series I’ve been working on, this is a written out story board for the first book, Monsters Sleep With Mom & Dad. The stories follow a brave cat detective named Scaredy and a cowardly anxious dog named Stout who think things in everyday life are monsters because of the movies they watch. When I was a kid I was terrified of supernatural paranormal monsters and creatures being real and horror movies were my worst enemy until I learned they were written by people and the stories were all made up. Soon things I feared lost their scary veil when I was able to see the reasons why I was fearful. Other books in the series are Mom Eats Brains For Breakfast where scaredy and Stout think their moms a zombie because of the way she acts in the morning, Mom and Dad Brought Home an Alien where they believe an alien has infiltrated their house when their owners have a baby, and Where Do Wolves Pay Rent? Where they believe their Neighbor is a werewolf after showing some suspicious times. Each book has a made up movie they watched during the “The Night Before” segment where each book ends that matches the story such as Dawning of the Dead night, a zombie movie with a parents coming home to a house party twist, Werewolves Of Wallstreet where to make it on Wall Street you gotta become a we’re wolf and run with the pack to make it, and beneath the covers where big like monsters infect a town through a mattress store after filling the town with noise for weeks straight. -G.F.Waltz
