Red mulberry

Long, long ago, the deep red berries of the mulberry tree were white, as white as snow. Its transformation is due to a strange and sad love story.

Legend has it that in the whole oriental world, Pyrems was the most handsome boy, and Shesley was the most beautiful and lovely girl. They both lived in Symeenamis, the city of Babylon ruled by the queen. Their homes were close to each other, and there was a wall shared by the two families. They grew up together through this wall, and gradually fell in love. They wanted to get married, but were opposed by both parents. However, love cannot be forbidden. The greater the pressure, the stronger the resistance. At the same time, love always has amazing power. It is impossible to separate these two hot hearts.

In the wall shared by the two families, there is a crack that has never been noticed. But nothing can hide from the sharp eyes of the lover in love, and the couple found it, so they approached the crack, and on both sides of the wall, they communicated their hearts and feelings to each other. The hateful wall that separated them became the medium through which they exchanged messages. "If it weren't for you, we could kiss each other," they said. "But at least you still allow us to talk to each other and make love words reach the ears of lovers, and we can't thank you enough." They talk like this every day. Whenever night came and they had to take a break, they pressed against the wall and threw deep kisses that could not touch each other's lips.

Every morning, when the dawn dispersed the stars and the dawn dried the dew on the grass, they sneaked to the crack, leaned against the wall, whispered unbearable love, and wept miserably for their difficult fate. Finally, they had reached the point of unbearability, and they decided to run away from home that night and sneak out of town to a place where they could gather freely. They agreed to meet under a mulberry tree covered with snow-white berries in front of the famous tomb of Ninas. This plan made them radiant, and they couldn't wait patiently for the night to come.

Finally, the sun set in the west, and the night came slowly. Under the cover of night, Shesley quietly came to the cemetery. Pirems, before it arrived, love gave her great courage, and she waited in a daze. Suddenly, a lioness appeared in the moonlight. This ferocious beast, who had just devoured animals, had blood on its forehead, and came to a nearby spring to drink water to quench its thirst. Because of the distance, Shesley still had time to escape, but in a hurry, she lost the cloak she was wearing. When the lion went back, he saw the cloak, tore it to shreds, and ran into the woods. A few minutes later, Pirems, got there, and saw the blood-stained shards of the cloak and the clear lion footprints on the ground. He thought that Shesley was gone, and he felt very sad and guilty that he had left his lover, a delicate maiden, alone in danger without her coming to protect her. "I killed you!" he said, picking up the broken cloak from the ground, kissing it, and taking it under the mulberry tree. " Now, "he looked, and the snow-white berry said," You will be stained with my blood. "He drew his sword, stabbed it into his chest, and the blood spurted upwards, suddenly dyeing the mulberry a deep red.

Although Shesley was afraid of lions, she was even more afraid of losing her lover. So she ventured back to the rendezvous. She saw that the trees were still there, but the white shining fruit was gone. She searched around and found something wriggling on the ground. She backed away in panic, shrinking and trembling. But when she stared for a moment, she realized that it was Pyrems, lying dying in a pool of blood. She jumped up and hugged him, kissed his cold lips, and asked him to look at her and talk to her. "It's me! Your Shesley, your dearest Shesley." She screamed at him as hard as she could, and he heard her name, opened his heavy eyelids, and glanced at her, and death swept him away.

Shesley saw the sword slipping from his hand and the blood-stained shards of his cloak beside him, and she knew it all. "Your own hand," she said, "and my love for me killed you, and I have the courage, because I love you too, and only death has the power to separate us, and now that power is about to be lost." Saying that, she stabbed her heart with the sword that was still stained with her lover's blood.

Later, the gods sympathized with each other, and the parents of the two lovers were also sentimental. The crimson mulberry became an eternal symbol of the martyrdom of the lovers who truly loved each other, and an ossuary bound the lovers together.
