He’d promised that he’d come sooner. Luckily, she couldn’t hear his promises. He’d disappointed her enough over the years.

Jeremiah looked tearfully down at the headstone; she deserved more he thought as he wiped away the tears.

“I’m a man and men don’t cry, but damn, ma!”

He could hear her voice in his head telling him that, everything was going to be okay.

Jeremiah, the firstborn of Christiana Justice! He’d run her ragged and his siblings had reminded him of that often. His brother and sister were in his care now.

“I won’t let you down Ma, I promise.”

About the Creator

Cynthia Fields

I adore words and I love what happens when we grab them, sleep with them, holler and scream and laugh at them! I love what happens when we throw them in the air and watch them fall magically from our minds onto paper!
