OLDER WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFL LOVERS – PART ONE

Charlotte looked into his beautiful blue eyes with wonder, joy, confusion, and lust. She found it so difficult to look away. She tried not to show how her pulse quickened and her breath caught in her throat.

O, my God! He’s gorgeous! she thought. So, what the hell is he doing with me?

Although Charlotte was in her seventies, she still looked good for her age. Yes, she had a few facial lines and wrinkles, but she’d seen others her age that looked at least then years older. She considered her lucky that she had skin texture akin to her mother’s.

Charlotte’s three closest friends decided to take her out for her birthday. They knew her well and planned the celebration for over one year.

Charlotte, being Charlotte, was never in awe of or attracted to celebrities. She’d already met her share and was not impressed. As a teen, she’d been involved with a group of other boys and girls, some her age, some younger, that had the opportunity to meet and greet certain celebrities, both men and women. While her peers were agog with the likes of Troy Donahue, Connie Stevens, etc., she was not. “They bleed red blood, just like we do.” Her friends at that time couldn’t understand her disinterest. As she grew up, while her friends insisted that there was not one person on earth that could compare with Elvis, Charlotte’s attitude remained the same. “He’s just a guy who can sing! So what?”

As I said, her blasé attitude remained that way until one day, as she scrolled through YouTube on the Internet, she came across a group of singers.

First, I’ll explain why she chose YouTube. The dance group she’s in uses YouTube to pick dances to learn, then posts the link to their social media site. Sometimes Charlotte would scroll through YouTube looking for something to suggest to their instructor. Such was the situation when she happened upon The Irish Rovers.

Oh my! What a sound that comes out of their mouths! And they’re all so wonderfully handsome. She backtracked the videos and saw the group had been in existence for several years before she “found” them. She downloaded every video she could find, then sat back and began to watch as well as listen.

The more she watched them, the more her mind began concentrating on one man. Aiden Cole.

Aiden seemed tall, of course she didn’t have much to make that determination but, to Charlotte, he seemed tall. When the camera rested on his face, she saw the soft blue gray of his eyes. His smile was a bit crooked, as well as his nose leading her to believe that he must have been, as a child, very rambunctious. She also noticed that when he smiled, his eyes sparkled. Ok, ya old dope! It’s probably the stage lighting and the glare of the camera! She quietly laughed to and at herself.

Yet, despite or maybe because of this weird attraction, she mentioned the group to her friends, saying, “It’s on my bucket list. Maybe one day, I’ll fly to Ireland and see the boys for myself.” She never mentioned the one person she was most interested in seeing. What she did instead, was, every now and then, play a video or two for her friends. While she didn’t mind laughing at herself, she didn’t want her friends to think she’d lost her mind.

Charlotte and her friends were widowed and when time allowed, they’d plan a trip, very often that trip turned out to be a cruise.

“You know, ladies,” she said when her friends mentioned the idea, “many women about to turn 75, don’t even want to think about their birthdays, let alone celebrate them!”

“Come on, Charliel” Anna said, “first of all, you sure as hell don’t look 75 and you certainly don’t act 75. We’ll all have fun.” Yes, her name was Charlotte but almost everyone she knew called her Charlie. After all, her friends also had odd nicknames: Bobbie (Barbara), Mel (MaryEllen), and Foxy (for Laura Fox). She smiled as she thought of them and how they must have sounded as they spoke. “Hey, Foxy!” “Watch doin’ Mel?” And so on!. Yes, they were a fun-loving group of women.

“First of all, you haven’t told me where we’re going? Do I wear jeans? A casual skirt? Or do I need to really get dressed up? Oh, and when exactly are you planning this dinner?”

Bobbie spoke as she looked at the others, “Well, you’ll need to pack a pair or two of shorts, maybe on set of jeans, a nice skirt or maybe a dress, good shoes and sneakers, your toiletries, and …”

She didn’t have the time to finish when Charlie interrupted as her eyes looked shocked, “Wait! What?? Where are we going? And for how long? I thought you meant a dinner for the night. What have you done?”

Foxy put one arm around Charlie’s shoulders and said, “We’re taking you on a 5-day cruise! You’ll love it.

“Why would I want to go on a birthday cruise and make a spectacle of myself? I’m almost 76, not 66!”

It was Mel’s turn to speak. “Aw, come on, Charlie. We haven’t been on a cruise in over a year. This’ll be fun.”

Charlie thought, Easy for you to say. You’re only 67! You don’t have the same aches and pains I face almost every morning.

However, it really did sound inviting. “Okay, maybe, but first, where are we going AND I’ll go as long as I pay my own way. Cruises are expenses and I see no reason why any or all of you should pay for me!”

Foxy squeezed her shoulder and said, “Charlie, I know you remember what happened to you six months ago. I also know, you were there for us. Do I need to remind you how your generosity put us in a position where we do help each other if needed? Not to forget how we’ve been able to help our families?”

Six months earlier, Charlie won the state’s lottery. Not only did it set her up for life, but Charlie being Charlie, gave her the opportunity to make sure her friends would fall into a situation out of which they couldn’t climb. Each was now, thanks to Charlie, worth more than three million dollars. This was a dream come true for them and it was something they’d never forget.

“Yes, I remember, so what? We’re friends. That’s what friends do!”

Foxy replied, “And that’s what friends do to friends who are as kind and generous as you. We’re all going, and you are not, and we mean NOT paying one cent! Well, unless of course, you slip away to the gift shop!”

Charlle looked from face to face, then extended her arms and shouted: “GROUP HUG!”

They were set! They were taking a 5-day cruise to the Bahamas.

Charlie was misty-eyed and speechless. There were her best friends. They’d been through so much: births of grandchildren, deaths of loved ones, financial and emotional difficulties, storms that damaged their homes, and yet, they all managed to stay close and help each other as the need arose. Now that all their financial worries were over, their close friendship grew even tighter. Now, they had the freedom to travel and tour wherever they pleased without worrying about paying that next large bill. Charlie smiled, then said, “Okay, off we go! But we’ll need to coordinate our packing. Decide what we need and what we can share. Are we doubling up in our rooms? What ports are we stopping at?”

Foxy, laughed. “I printed the entire itinerary and made copies for all of us. Mel made a list of items she thought we’d need to bring and no, we’re not sharing rooms... just in case.”

“In case of what?” Charlie asked naïvely.

Each woman looked at each other and smiled.

Bobbie spoke, “Oops! Almost forgot to tell you. Yes, we’re going to the Bahamas HOWEVER, this is an “Irish” cruise, and The Irish Rovers are headlining the entertainment.”
