Six- year-old Joey has his own aquarium at home. He has five fish in the aquarium. He named the big fish George, and the four small fish's names are Henry, Fred, Alfred, and Luke. He took care of his fish faithfully for two months. One day something happened to his fish, and they died. He felt horrible. He must have giving them rotten fish food. He buried them in a small hole which he dug in his yard. There was an aquarium in a store five miles away. He rode his new blue bicycle to the store which was called Matthew's Aquariums three times a week. He was great friends with the owner of the store and his seven-year year old son, Billy.

Matthew let Billy and Joey watch the fish in the aquarium and feed them. There were two beautiful angelfish and several goldfish. Joey watched them swim back and forth. Some of the fish seemed like they wanted to get out of the aquarium. Joey wished he could own the angelfish, but they cost more than he could afford. He looked at them, wishing he could at least hold them, but he was not allowed to do so. Kids had held fish from the aquarium before, and they got away from them. He named the angelfish Floyd and Petey. He often called them by their names. They looked at him and swam closer to him. The fish really seemed lonely. To Joey, it looked like they felt trapped in the aquarium. The names he gave the ten goldfishes were Bart, Cole, Frank, Leo, Ned, Eddie, Hank, Sammy, Ted, and Ralph.

The two angelfish cost $50.00. He mowed the lawn for some of his neighbors to earn the money for the fish. He was paid $5.00 for each lawn he mowed that summer. Finally, after ten weeks, he had earned earn $50.00. He had worked hard that summer, and he didn't have a chance to do many fun things. His focus was on earning the money for Floyd and Petey. He hadn't asked the owner of the aquarium store yet if he could buy the two angelfish. When he told him he worked all summer for the angelfish, the owner was delighted to sell them to Joey.

Joey promised to take great care of Floyd and Petey. He dearly loved the fish he had worked so hard all summer for. He had the biggest smile on his face as he left the aquarium store with Floyd and Petey. He was mighty careful as he carried the fish home on his bicycle. He had friends that waved at him and whistled. Joey's parents were proud of him for working so hard to earn the money for Floyd and Petey. They asked Joey to be sure to do his chores and homework as well as feed the fish twice a day. They promised Joey if he did his chores and homework faithfully for a month, he could have more angelfish and some goldfish too if he wanted. Floyd and Petey swam in the aquarium at will. They were happy fish because Joey truly loved them and took great care of them. His friends were jealous of him because he had two angelfish, and they didn't have any.

After a month, Joey had earned the chance to have more fish for his aquarium. His parents bought him four small fishes to replace the ones that died. He named them Willie, Howard, Ethan, and Larry. Each of the fishes cost $10.00. He invited his friends to come see his new fishes. He hoped they would soon have fishes too. He vowed to himself that these fish would grow to be big fishes. Then he might have to buy a bigger aquarium for them.
