Sun had been shining through Lyla’s window as Alex woke her up, showering her with kisses. A giggle erupting from her throat, she then kissed Alex on the lips, and his hunger grew as he cupped his hand behind her head. It subsequently turned into Alex lacing his fingers through Lyla’s hair.

Soft moans escaped them, as Alex found his way on top of Lyla. When he tried sliding off Lyla’s shorts, she sat up and pushed him off of her. “I’m sorry, I’m not ready for any of that,” she panted. Lyla had never found a reason for engaging in sex, and she was fine with that; she felt it impeded more important things, such as studies.

In remorse, Alex held out his hand, to help Lyla up from her bed. He pulled her into a hug and nuzzled his face into Lyla’s hair, “I’m sorry I went too far, too fast.” He pulled Lyla back, then cupped her face in his hand and placed a soft kiss on her lips. They headed downstairs to start their morning, and to much of their surprise, no one was home.

“Did… Anyone say anything to you,” Alex spoke, unsure. Lyla shook her head, but shrugged it off and began her morning ritual. She made her coffee, her cereal, and sat down to scroll through her phone.

She sent Serena a text to find out where she had gone off to. Not a minute sooner did she receive a reply. Easing her nerves that she hadn’t realized were present.

Serena: Hey we went out to get Jessica some of her things from her apartment, thinking about moving her in. we’ll be back soon.

As soon as Lyla finished her breakfast, she went upstairs to clean herself up and pick an outfit for the day. She chose a cute, white sundress that had red chairs placed randomly on it, and tied her hair back to add a matching ribbon in her hair. She intended to make a last impression on Alex before their parting on the following day.

She headed back down to the living room, and came face to face with Serena and Jessica. “Hey so I know it’s your last day, and I wanted to get you something before you left,” Serena said, as she held out a small stuffed animal to Lyla. They were always giving gifts to each other, especially if they knew they were going to be apart from each other; which they were.

Lyla hugged her best friend and gave her a small peck on her cheek. Her attention was then turned towards the stairs, as Alex was descending towards the girls; he was dressed up as if he were going to a special outing. When he reached the bottom, he grabbed Lyla’s hand and asked, “hey Lyla I was thinking, we should go out for a date, since it’s our last day and all.”

She nodded and spun around to Serena who was still standing near her.

“It’s okay, you can go have a date, but you’re mine when you return for packing,” Serena declared, pulling Jessica up the stairs to her room. Lyla and Alex headed out the door to her car; Alex had insisted on driving once again. He pulled up an ad for a movie he wanted to take her to, and she bought their tickets with her father’s card.

Once the movie let out, Alex whisked her away for lunch; he took her to a cute little deli and chose the tables outside for dining. They recounted the movie while they ate, then Lyla brought up having to go home the next day. “I really am going to miss this. It’s been the most fun I’ve had since I started school here, thank you,” she blushed.

He took his hand in hers, then kissed the back of it. “I didn’t think I would have this much fun with a stranger, but this has been the best week of my life,” he gushed. Lyla then started telling him about her capstone, and how she was tasked with getting close to someone. She told him how she began noticing the surrounding males, and how she was taken aback by him when she first encountered him.

“I really didn’t understand why my professor had given me this task, since it was outside the realm of our studies, but I’ve been able to understand how much of the world I have missed out on,” she claimed. She stopped thinking of this whole thing as a project the moment her heart began racing and she had kissed him that first time in her car. She could wholeheartedly say that she fell head over heels for Alex, even though she had been trying not to.

After they had finished dining at the deli, Alex pulled her off to a nearby park. They walked around a pond’s edge, swinging their arms, and continuing their conversation. She was really enjoying their day, but had reminded him she needed to head back for packing. To which he asked if she would stay out to accompany him to dinner. She obliged.

They went out to an Italian restaurant, and Alex was a complete gentleman. He held doors, pulled out her chair, and asked for anything she needed. Lyla had really been enjoying herself when a text pulled her attention. It was from her father; he had asked when she would return home. He had flown into town to help her pack, as he did every time Lyla went back home. Subsequently, he would spend most of the time talking about how much he missed her mom, even though he left her for someone younger, and how it was too late because he was with someone new.

As a result of her father’s text, they asked the server for take out boxes and the check. They paid for their ticket and raced home. Eventually they were met at the door by Lyla’s father, Alan, and he brought Lyla in for a big bear hug, “oh, how I’ve missed my Lylabug,” he mused. After he set her back on her feet, he shook Alex’s hand, “Lyla, this one is lively, he has a powerful grip, seems like a gentleman,” he declared.

She used the opportunity to head upstairs to Serena’s room, she then knocked on the door. After a few beats passed, Serena cracked the door, “did you know your sperm donor was here?”

“He texted me while I was at dinner,” she replied.

“Well, why aren’t you down there with him?” she countered.

“Alex seems to be holding down the fort just fine, do you wanna help me pack while he has him distracted,” she requested, as words of law school floated up to her. Serena nodded and headed down the hall with her. They pulled out Lyla’s suitcases and started filling them with clothes and other things she might have needed while she was back home, and the whole time she told Serena about her day with Alex. She had been slightly jealous because she didn’t have a date like that, but happy for her friend.

Once they had finished packing, they headed back down to save Alex from Lyla’s father. He had been telling him that once he got out of law school that Alex could take Lyla’s father up on being one of his first clients. This pleased him, then Lyla interrupted their conversation and told them that the packing was all done. Her father said his goodbyes and gave Lyla a thumbs up for Alex, and he headed on his way.

Lyla had enjoyed her day, even with the visit of her father. She finished her evening cuddled up to Alex in her bed; Lyla felt safe in his arms, and she knew she was going to miss this feeling. She soaked up as much of him as she could, because she knew come morning this would be all over for them.
