Tazi is the kind of young lady that loves food. For as long as she could remember, Tazi would stand by her stepmother on holidays and watch her do magic in the kitchen. Tazi’s stepmother wasn’t the only person she loved to watch cook. Her grandmother was amazing at growing fresh fruits and vegetables. In Tazi’s mind, these two women were her food idols. Tazi’s stepmother showed her how to make and bake her famous chocolate cake death.

Tazi watched her stepmother in amazement as she was pulling out the ingredients for her cake. Some of the elements were for different things, but the secret ingredient she did not put in because my stepmother explained that the last component is hazardous. Now in Tazi’s mind, she could not understand how a cake and a chocolate cake can be dangerous? Well, Tazi was about to find out in more ways than one.

One evening when Tazi came home from school, she noticed that her stepmother was getting ready to make another chocolate cake. Her stepmother invited her to have a seat at the table and get a notebook out because she would be taking notes. Tazi said to her stepmother that she just got out of school and she had a lot of homework to get done. Tazi’s stepmother said that what she was about to teach her could one day save her life and the lives of others around her if she ever needed to use it.

Now, as soon as Tazi hear her stepmother’s response, she sat down instantly. Tazi’s stepmother’s reaction made her nervous and scared all at the same time. Tazi wanted to run fast to her bedroom and lock the door, but she knew that her stepmother would get upset if she did that.

Tazi’s stepmother told her to ask whatever questions that came to her mind about each ingredient. As Tazi was asking her questions, she noticed that with each correct answer that she gave, her stepmother would reward her with a slice of chocolate death cake. Tazi also noticed that after each piece she was given, her stepmother would ask her what she was feeling? What did her taste buds tell her? What feelings was she feeling before the slice of chocolate death cake, and how did she feel afterward? Her stepmother also reminded her to take notes on all that the portions of chocolate death cake gave her, good or bad. This was her additional homework assignment which was remarkable for Tazi because she loved her stepmother’s cakes but what worried her was why her stepmother was teaching her all of this and giving her mixed messages along the way.

Tazi was always in training and teaching mode whenever she got home from school because her stepmother reserved two to three hours of her homework time for these lessons. I mean, sure, Tazi says to herself, I am having a great time learning all of this, but how will this help me in the future? Tazi couldn’t see the point clearly because her stepmother is the only person in the world that could explain things in a way that anyone could understand, but for some reason, these last few months, it feels like she is hiding something.

One evening when Tazi came home from school for the weekend, she noticed that her stepmother was nowhere to be found. She called out to her but no answer then suddenly her step-father appears out of nowhere and tells her some things that are so horrible I can’t even begin to discuss. Later that evening, Tazi’s step-father asked her to bring him a piece of chocolate death cake. She did as she was asked but little did she know that this chocolate death cake would be the last slice he would ever eat again.
