Chase's Chase - Episode 5

INT. INSIDE STRANGERS CAR - NIGHTTIME

CHASE, HARPER, and STRANGER 3 sit in the back of the car. STRANGER 1 and STRANGER 2 sit in the front.

HARPER

(Whispers)

Who are they?

CHASE

(Whispers)

They've been in a lot of my dreams lately.

HARPER looks over at STRANGER 3. STRANGER 3 smiles and hands the joint over to her. HARPER hesitates, but takes a small hit off it anyways. HARPER coughs and hands the joint over to CHASE. CHASE shrugs and takes a hit off the joint. CHASE blows the smoke out the window.

CAMERA ZOOMS OUT TO SHOW THEM ON A ROAD HEADING INTO A LITTLE CITY.

HARPER

Where are we?

CAMERA COMES BACK TO THEM IN THE CAR.

STRANGER 2

Deerfield. It's a little city, outside of Portsmouse.

HARPER

(Shock)

Deerfield?

CHASE

I've heard of Deerfield.

STRANGER 2

Yes, Deerfield. There's a little bar our friend works at. We thought you might want to meet, since you brought your friend this time.

STRANGER 2 points to HARPER. They continue driving along, and stop outside a little night club. They each get out of the car. CHASE exits last, closing the door to the backseat. They each walk inside to the night club.

CLUB MUSIC PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND.

CHASE and HARPER look at the neon designs throughout the night club.

STRANGER 3

Hey, Kyra!

STRANGER 3 waves to a young woman, KYRA, who is waving back at her. STRANGER 2 and STRANGER 1 follow behind STRANGER 3 and go up to KYRA. They each give KYRA a hug. KYRA smiles the entire time.

HARPER

Wait, is that the woman from our last session?

CHASE looks at HARPER and nods his head.

HARPER

Should we say anything?

CHASE

I don't know.

KYRA comes up to CHASE and HARPER.

KYRA

Hello, there. I'm Kyra. I heard you two were on a journey today.

STRANGER 3

They're dimension jumping together.

KYRA

Oh well that's interesting. Is there a reasoning?

HARPER

We've been getting clues about a man in a light blue car.

KYRA goes tense for a second.

CHASE

It's his favorite color.

KYRA

I know of many people who drive light blue cars. Do you have a name?

CHASE

No. We just know he drives around with someone who's in a military uniform.

CHASE and HARPER look at each other. CHASE shrugs at HARPER.

CHASE

I think we've actually seen you in one of our visions before.

KYRA

Really? What was it of?

CHASE

It was you in a cabin in the woods, that seemed to be owned or in use by that man, in the light blue car.

KYRA remains more calm than CHASE and HARPER. KYRA looks at the ground irritated as she dries off the cups behind the bar.

STRANGER 1

Is there a reasoning for needing to know about this man?

HARPER

Just his name would help.

STRANGER 2

I think I know who you're talking about.

STRANGER 2 leans over the bar and whispers into KYRAS ear.

KYRA

Oh yeah. Chris.

ASHTON

Killer Chris.

KYRA

Almost the same as the skit.

CHASE AND HARPER

The skit?

ELLYSE

I call bullshit.

INT. INSIDE HARPERS ROOM - DAY

CHASE and HARPER are in HARPERS room, sitting on top of pillows on her floor.

HARPER

Why did we suddenly bounce back?

CHASE thinks over everything he just heard.

CHASE

Killer Chris. The skit. I call bullshit.

HARPER

You call bullshit?

CHASE

No. Sorry. It's just something I heard when we were in the other dimension.

HARPER

Do you know who said it?

CHASE looks down at the ground, sad that he can't tell HARPER that it was ASHTON and ELLYSE.

CHASE

No.

HARPER

What do you think about Kyra?

CHASE

I think it's strange how she didn't know who we were talking about?

HARPER

It's such a time warp. I think we either went back into the past or her in the climbing out of the cabin was from the future.

CHASE

It felt weird asking her.

HARPER

It felt weird that she didn't know who we were talking about at first.

CHASE

You're right. It is a time warp.

CHASE and HARPER each just sit there for a second.

HARPER

What do we tell the others?

CHASE and HARPER both look at each other in distraught.

INT. IN CLASS - AFTERNOON

CHASE is sitting in his seat in a big lecture hall, full of other students all around him. CHASE sits, his cheek resting on his hand.

PROFESSOR

Bis zur nächsten Unterrichtsstunde müssen alle Ihre Präsentationen fertig haben, und dann entscheide ich, wer zuerst geht.

CLASS

Ja, Professor.

The class ends and everyone stands up.

ELLYSE

Why are you learning German? You should be learning Italian. Italy is where all the real glory is at.

ASHTON

I'd be learning Scottish Gaelic if I were you. Connects to quite a few roots.

ELLYSE

Shut up Ashton. We almost all have a little bit of Scottish in us.

CHASE

Americans.

PROFESSOR

What was that Chase?

CHASE looks up and sees just PROFESSOR and himself left in the classroom. CHASES face goes red in embarrassment.

CHASE

Oh, nothing, sir.

CHASE gets up and leaves the lecture hall.

CHASE

Why do you two always have to do that?

ELLYSE

Why do you always have to speak out loud?

CHASE rolls his eyes at ELLYSE, growing irritated.

CHASE

Ihr zwei solltet besser nicht reden, wenn ich meinen Vortrag im Unterricht halte

ELLYSE

Aspettiamo e vediamo.

CHASE suddenly sees the screen in front of him, showing OFFICER.

CHASE

Oh no.

CHASE hurries to the library, trying to ignore the screen as he goes.

ASHTON

Don't trip.

CHASE trips over the door as he enters the library, falling to the ground as he does.

ELLYSE

Oh no.

CHASE picks up his books and gets back up to his feet. He looks up and sees the workers behind the counter looking at him. CHASES face goes pink so he rolls his eyes, gets to his feet and continues walking to the back of the library. Once CHASE is at the back of the library, he puts his bag down and takes out his laptop. The screen shows up again, OFFICER shaking his finger in disapproval.

OFFICER

Not so fast.

CHASE closes his eyes but still sees the screen.

CHASE

What do you want?

OFFICER

Watch.

EXT. CHASE'S VISION - OUTSIDE IN THE WOODS - DAY

CHASE sees DANTE sitting outside in a tent with his laptop out.

CHASE

Who is that?

OFFICER giggles and points at DANTE again. DANTE closes his laptop and puts it into his backpack. There comes the sound of footsteps from the woods behind them. CHASE turns around and sees CHRIS and JORDEN walking over. JORDEN is in his military uniform again. DANTE gets up and brushes his hands off on his pants.

CHRIS

So this is where you've been staying?

DANTE

Yeah. Just for a couple months.

JORDEN laughs at DANTE.

CHRIS

Do you have the information we need on her?

DANTE

Yeah. I got all her addresses, phone numbers, schedule and license plate. The best time to catch her is at nighttime. She works the day shifts.

JORDEN

Not the last time I saw her. I was with my general and ran into her at the smoothie cafe.

CHRIS rolls his eyes at JORDEN.

CHRIS

(In a fake happy voice.)

He gets a bit cocky over tiny things.

JORDEN

It's just I'm the one that caught her and knew she was back in the area.

DANTE

Did she remember who you were?

JORDEN

Not in the slightest. We've got this guys. Dumb blondes.

DANTE looks over at JORDEN offended but just shrugs it off.

CHRIS

Can you tell if she's bought any travel tickets lately?

DANTE

I don't know now, but I can try and figure out for you.

CHRIS

Good.

CHRIS hands DANTE a pile of money.

CHRIS

Here's that for now. We'll be back later tonight. Have that for us by then and we'll have more money.

DANTE

Got it.

CHRIS and JORDEN start walking back. DANTE puts the money in his pocket and sits back down. He gets his laptop out and opens it up.

DANTE

Whatever you want, stalker.

THE SCENE FADES AWAY

INT. IN LIBRARY - AFTERNOON

CHASE comes back to reality, now only seeing OFFICER.

OFFICER

See. Get ready for the drama.

CHASE

The drama? Seems like more than drama.

OFFICER shrugs and looks down at the ground bashfully.

CHASE

You are such a fucked up hallucination.

CHASE slams his laptop shut. He puts his head down in his hands. CHASE suddenly enters a new state and stands up. He puts all his items in his backpack and starts leaving the library. He glares at the workers in the front as he exits.

CHASE

(Whispering under his breath.)

What's your favorite color?

INT. CHASE'S BEDROOM - LATER

CHASE

Hey Jack!?

JACK

Yeah?

CHASE

Has there been any news on them figuring out who that killer is yet?

JACK

No. It's the criminal justice department, Chase. There's no way in hell they're going to figure out who that was for a long while.

ARMANI walks into the room with a cup of milk in his hands.

ARMANI

I second that. Plus they still haven't even solved one of the biggest serial killers of this area from the 90s yet. You seriously think they're going to solve this one? It seems to peculiar.

CHASE

How so?

JACK

We've been looking into it more and mostly all the evidence is gone. They have no one to connect it too.

CHASE thinks back to CHRIS in the woods.

JACK

I think I've come up with a theory though.

ARMANI

Oh great. Here we go again with the hitman theory.

CHASE

Hitman?

JACK

Yeah, a hitman. Just look at the way they've been disappearing, Chase. Also how no one is really doing anything to find out who's killed these people or taken them. There's only about three different big missing cases so far that people are continuously posting about, and those could just be a different person going after them.

CHASE

That is strange.

ARMANI

So we've got a hitman and a serial killer theory in one, both just working separate?

JACK

A hitman is a serial killer. Just one gets paid and the other doesn't.

CHASE sees CHRIS in his mind again, trying to see if he's done either of the two.

CHASE

Chris's eyes are emotionless, besides irritation at times, and he keeps using the fake voice.

JACK

Chris?

CHASE

Chris?

ARMANI

Yeah, you just said Chris.

CHASE

Shit.

INT. CHASES BEDROOM - NIGHTTIME

CHASE rolls back and forth in hid bed. He scrunches his eyebrows in and then covers his face with the blanket.

ASHTON

Chris. Chris. Chris.

(on repeat)

INT. CHASES DREAM - INSIDE THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

CHASE is inside the basement of the cabin. There's dirt as the floor. CHASE looks at a hole in the floor that looks like the shape of a rectangle. CHASE looks down into the hole.

CHASE

Where is this?

ASHTON

(Whispers.)

The cabin.

CHASE

The one that Harper and I saw?

ASHTON

The one that Kyra came running out of.

ELLYSE

She's such a wimp ass.

CHASE rolls his eyes at ELLYSE. The sound of a car door closing comes from outside.

ASHTON

Quick! Hide!

CHASE goes in a circle until he looks behind him and sees the stairs. CHASE runs to the stairs and hides underneath them. A thud goes off from the front door closing upstairs. Footsteps go across the floor above him. CHASE looks up, trying to distinguish the exact location of the feet. The door above him opens, letting a light come down into the basement. CHRIS'S shadow covers bits of the light coming form the door. Slow steps start coming down the stairs. JORDEN and CHRIS carry a woman down the stairs.

JORDEN

Why are we carrying her together? She's light as fuck.

CHRIS

To keep her from waking up. We need to get her in the ground.

CHASE looks back over at the hole in the ground. CHRIS and JORDEN make it to the bottom of the stairs. CHASE sees them carrying KYRA. They carry KYRA over towards to hole in the ground.

CHRIS

Now, carefully.

CHRIS and JORDEN carefully get down on their knees, gently placing KYRA down into the hole.

JORDEN

What do we do now?

CHRIS

We're going to burry her.

JORDEN

Alive? We can't just shoot her?

CHRIS

No. She needs to suffer.

JORDEN

How do we know she's not going to get out?

CHRIS

She's locked down here, either way.

JORDEN

So we'll shoot her if she gets out?

CHRIS

(Agitated.)

Yes, Jorden. We'll fucking shoot her if she gets out. What is it with you and killing females anyways?

JORDEN becomes offended.

JORDEN

Excuse me? I've only killed men! With you!

CHRIS

Whatever. Let's just burry her and then go pick up Dante.

JORDEN

I'll go get the shovels.

JORDEN runs up the stairs, making dirt come down on CHASES head. CHRIS crouches down and looks at KYRA in the hole.

CHRIS

Oh, Kyra, you dumb ass. You didn't see this one coming now did you? Guess you should have called the cops. Again!

JORDEN opens the door and comes back down the stairs.

JORDEN

Are you parenting another one?

CHRIS

Always time for a good talk before the end of them. Last words through the ears, not the mouth, in these stories. I get the last words.

CHASE gets shivers up his arms from the tone of CHRIS'S voice. CHRIS gets up to his feet. JORDEN holds out a shovel for him with a big grin on his face.

JORDEN

Are you ready?

CHRIS grabs the shovel and starts putting the dirt back into the hole, on top of KYRA. As they do the area around CHASE starts becoming blurry.

CHASE

(Whispers.)

Wait, no!

JORDEN

Did you hear that?

CHRIS

What?

JORDEN turns around and starts heading towards CHASES direction. The area around CHASE completely fades away and he disappears before JORDEN sees him.

JORDENS

(Just his voice.)

There's no one there.

INT. CHASE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT/EARLY MORNING

CHASE suddenly sits up in his bed. CHASE grabs hold of his head with his hands.

CHASE

(Shouting.)

WHAT THE FUCK!?

JACK

(From the living room.)

Shut the fuck up Chase! It's just a dream!

CHASE gets up out of bed and walks out of his bedroom. He looks into the living room and there is JACK, sitting on the couch, watching the television.

CHASE

What are you doing awake?

JACK

I couldn't stop thinking about murder in the area.

CHASE

Why's it taking up the space in your brain? I'm just curious cause it's not like you're hearing voices too or anything.

JACK

I don't know, man. To be honest I think it really is because of the dreams and connections you've been having. Especially since meeting Harper and you already having a vision about her too. Have any of these been proven real so far, besides Harpers?

CHASE

No. I don't know how to. We all already know the FBI isn't going to tell us anything and I highly doubt those below them will either.

JACK

I doubt those shits can even solve it unless they're involved in it.

ARMANI walks in behind them.

ARMANI

It's like the small town murder ones they always get.

CHASE and JACK both turn around and see ARMANI.

ARMANI

You two are up talking about murder?

CHASE

What else would I be talking about?

ARMANI

Europe.

ELLYSE

When the fuck do you talk about Europe?

ASHTON

Oh shit.

ARMANI

You haven't really talked about that at all this past month.

CHASE

I've just been so busy with what's been going on in my brain.

JACK

Wait. Have you guys ever watched the tv show, Perception?

CHASE

No, but I've heard about it.

ARMANI

I've seen a few episodes, but not much. It's pretty cool. It seems a bit different than yours though, Chase. This guy is a professor and more is given clues to information he's already heard. I highly doubt you've been hearing about that guy you've been seeing in your dreams.

JACK

You said he looks just like the guy we passed on the dirt road after hiking at the beginning of the month, right?

CHASE

Yeah. It's just so weird the case of scenario.

JACK starts twiddling away on his phone.

ARMANI

You don't think he's just your brain grabbing onto someone and it's someone different, right?

CHASE

I don't know. It could be.

CHASE looks down at the ground in deep thought. JACK gets up and grabs the remote to the television. JACK turns the television on.

JACK

Since we can't sleep, I rented each three season of Perception.

CHASE

Oh great.

CHASE and ARMANI look at each other and laugh.

ARMANI

I'll go make some popcorn.
