Chase's Chase - Episode 4

INT. NIGHT - IN CHASES ROOM

CHASE is asleep. He keeps turning back and forth, while he dreams.

INT. NIGHT - CHASES DREAM - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST

CHASE is sitting on a log in the middle of the woods. It is raining out. He has his face resting on his hands.

THE LITTLE THINGS BY BIG GIGANTIC STARTS PLAYING AND THE CAMERA GOES UP IN THE SKY, SHOWING A CITY NOT TOO FAR AWAY.

CHASE

(Audio)

I feel like I'm lost.

DEATH

Like you're lost?

CHASE

Lost in a dream.

DEATH

That's what I'm doing here.

CHASE

Have you ever been lost here?

DEATH

(In a British accent.)

Not me, but maybe Ellyse.

Lights from a car suddenly appear.

CHASE

What's that?

The car comes down a street in the middle of the woods. CHASE realizes that it's the same car that was in his adventure he had with HARPER.

CHASE

Who is that?

The car continues driving down the street and past them.

INT. NIGHT - CHASES DREAM - INSIDE LIGHT BLUE CAR

THE LITTLE THINGS BY THE BIG GIGANTIC KEEPS PLAYING.

The light continues driving down the seat. DANTE sits in the backseat with his laptop. DANTE has a southern accent. JORDEN sits in the front, in the passengers seat, with a military uniform on. CHRIS sits in the drivers seat, being the man that CHASE saw out walking the dirt roads in EPISODE 1.

CHRIS

(Fake happy accent.)

So you think you can help us out?

DANTE

I'll help you if you help me.

CHRIS grows irritated quickly but hands the money back to DANTE. DANTE counts the money and then puts it in his bag.

DANTE

I'm able to get you peoples locations, tracking down the last place they used their phone even, if you're really desperate.

JORDEN and CHRIS look at each other. JORDEN nods his head at CHRIS. JORDEN reaches his arm to the back seat.

JORDEN

Welcome to the team.

DANTE and JORDEN shake hands. CHRIS watches in the mirror as they do.

INT. NIGHT - CHASES DREAM - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST

CHASE walks along the dirt road. A truck comes up. CHASE puts his thumb out. The truck pulls over. CHASE runs up to the side of the truck and opens the door.

CHASE

Thank you, there.

Next to CHASE is an older man with a hat on. The older man nods his head but doesn't say anything. They continue driving along.

DRIVER

What are you doing all the way out here at night?

CHASE shrugs, not sure what to say.

DRIVER

We've had some creepy scenarios recently. Now don't call me a homebody or anything, but I watch a lot of the news and listen to podcasts while I'm on my own and I've been hearing a bit about people going missing along the highways. Now, usually it's their car abandoned, so your case is a bit different. Are you in danger, son?

CHASE

Danger? No.

DRIVER

Are you on drugs or something?

CHASE

No, sir.

ELLYSE

No you piece of shit! He's-

(Fake British accent.)

Lost.

DRIVERS eyes go completely black.

CHASE

What the fuck is going on?

INT. MORNING - CHASES LIVING ROOM

TV NEWS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND.

CHASE walks out of his room, still in his pajamas, and does a big yawn.

JACK

Good morning, shit brain.

CHASE

My brain is shit.

CHASE slumps his body over and leans onto the fridge.

ARMANI

You okay, drama king?

JACK

No, it's definitely shit brains.

CHASE points over at JACK. The door opens and in comes LIA.

LIA

Hey guys!

JACK

Hey beautiful.

ARMANI

Hey.

ARMANI waves and CHASE nods his head at LIA. LIA smiles back at CHASE.

LIA

What are you guys up to?

JACK

Watching the news actually.

ARMANI looks over at CHASE.

ARMANI

Yeah, you're not gonna like this one bud.

CHASE

Oh great.

JACK

They found a dead body, shot in their car outside a highway rest stop last night.

CHASE

Did they rob him too?

JACK

Not that I know of so far. It just caught my attention because they brought up a possible link in a serial killer with it.

CHASE

Which one?

JACK

I don't know for sure yet, but it's definitely someone who shoots people.

ARMANI

Great. Another one of those Sons of Sam groups, probably.

JACK

Not everything connects to the past.

CHASE

I don't know guys. Don't you think people nowadays wouldn't consistently kill the same? Like they would have learned by now.

JACK

Who knows. It just grabbed my attention.

LIA

Americans and serial killers.

LIA rolls her eyes at the three guys.

CHASE

I actually have a whole list going.

LIA laughs at CHASE and CHASE shakes his head.

LIA

Did you have any visions last night?

CHASE

Not really but it did feel like I got a warning. A warning about the new dead body on the news. Someone mentioned the danger of being out where I was in my dream. Because of people and strangers.

LIA

Wow. Luckily it was just a dream. Do you think it relates to what happened on the news?

CHASE shrugs.

CHASE

Who knows...

JACK

We should drive up there and check it out!

ARMANI

Are you crazy?

LIA

Why don't you ever do this for the bodies that are showing up dead in the water?

JACK

Because that person would actually probably kill me if they caught me doing that.

ARMANI

But you don't think a gunman would?

JACK

Never mind guys.

JACK leans back in his seat in disappointment.

JACK

Well than what are we going to do today?

ARMANI

Why don't we go for another hike?

JACK

We go hiking all the time dude.

CHASE looks into his room, thinking over the missing persons cases on his wall.

CHASE

What if we went and tried to interview a detective instead? I could say it was for a school project.

LIA

That sounds safer.

ARMANI

No! Wait! Chase? Is this because of the missing peoples posters on your wall and your visions?

CHASE

Maybe...

ARMANI

Am I the only one finding this a bit crazy, us looking into murders and missing peoples cases?

CHASE, LIA and JACK each look at each other.

CHASE, JACK, AND LIA

Maybe...

JACK

What else are we going to do though?

ARMANI rolls his eyes at each of them.

ARMANI

Whatever. Fuck it.

ARMANI grabs his keys.

ARMANI

I'm driving though.

CHASE

Wait! Are you guys okay if we pick up Harper too actually? She might be able to get a reading while we're there.

LIA

Yeah! She seemed cool. Plus it'd be nice to not be the only female for once.

ARMANI

Deal. Off to Harpers we go.

They each walk outside, LIA AND JACK holding hands while they do.

EXT AND INT. AFTERNOON - INSIDE ARMANIS CAR

VIBE CHECK BY GRIZ PLAYS ON THE RADIO

ARMANI and CHASE are in the front seats, nodding their head to the music. LIA and JACK cuddle in the back seats. They drive into the same city that was in CHASES dream but CHASE doesn't notice. ARMANI takes long drags off his vape and hands it over to CHASE. CHASE takes a hit off it, but coughs a little.

JACK

What about a hit off this, buddy?

JACK hands up a dab pen to CHASE.

ARMANI

I am not getting high before possibly talking to a detective.

ARMANI looks over at CHASE. CHASE thinks it over for a second.

CHASE

I'll take a little hit.

JACK

There you go buddy. It'll loosen you up more.

ARMANI

You two are such annoying ass dumb fucks sometimes.

LIA

I actually agree with Armani babe. Maybe we should go get food before we head to the detectives.

ELLYSE

Stay on track Chase.

ASHTON

Yeah, his favorite colors blue.

CHASE

His favorite colors blue.

JACK

Who?

CHASE

Umm... No one.

ARMANI pulls into HARPERS driveway.

ARMANI

Is this the right place?

CHASE

Yeah.

HARPER steps outside and waves at them all in the car. They each wave back.

HARPER

Hey!

HARPER heads over and gets into the car, joining JACK and LIA in the back.

HARPER

I'm Harper.

JACK

Hello, Harper. We saw you at one of your shows not too long ago.

ARMANI

Yeah, it was pretty cool. How you could read into Chase's mind and everything.

LIA

Goodness. You're not doing it right now, right?

HARPER

Fuck no. I'd definitely ask your permission first, especially outside my job.

ARMANI

But you're going to try to read out the detective today though?

HARPER

I do cross the line a few times, depending on the industry at hand.

HARPER winks at CHASE.

CHASE

Not a fan of the cops?

JACK

Who would be?

CHASE

Luckily, hopefully it'll be detectives today. I'm not a fan of the cops either.

ARMANI

None of us are. That's why I'm surprised any of you actually wanted to do this.

JACK shrugs.

JACK

Maybe we can solve it.

ARMANI

Yeah right.

HARPER

You never know.

ARMANI

Okay. Let's all make a bet. First is what I know so it doesn't count in it, but that we're not going to get any answers from these detectives today. But as a bet, once we're done wasting our time with them, let's see if we can actually solve any of these crimes ourselves, because I bet that you all can't. Except maybe Harper.

ARMANI looks back at HARPER in the mirror. HARPER raises her eyebrows at him.

CHASE

The bet is on.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE FBI STATION - AFTERNOON

JACK comes storming out of the building. Following behind him comes LIA, CHASE, ARMANI, and HARPER.

JACK

Fucking bitchy idiots!

LIA puts her hand on JACKS shoulder.

ARMANI

Told you so.

EXT. IN THE PARK - AFTERNOON

CHASE, ARMANI, JACK, LIA, and HARPER sit out on a grassy hill. They each have sushi in front of them, eating away at it.

JACK

You guys were right. We did need food.

LIA

Told you so.

LIA messes around with JACKS hair.

CHASE

Surprise we got nothing from the fbi.

JACK

They basically turned us down at the door. Pretending there isn't even a serial killer in the midst of our area.

HARPER

There's a serial killer in almost every state in this country. It's not like they don't exist.

ARMANI

Yeah, but it'd be nice not to run into them.

HARPER

True. You sure you want to participate in this Armani?

CHASE looks over at ARMANI. ARMANI tenses up a bit and looks down at his sushi.

ARMANI

Yeah. I'm sure. It's just a dangerous topic, you know? People make it seem so normal, like with all these podcasts and stuff these days, but it's a life or death situation in the end. They aren't called serial killers for nothing.

HARPER

That's true. It is a tricky position to put ourselves in. Luckily, we're not the only people trying to solve it so there's probably no danger to come our way.

JACK

Yeah, right? What about yours and Chase's visions though?

HARPER looks over at CHASE.

HARPER

(Whispering)

You told them?

JACK

No. He told Armani and Armani told me.

CHASE flicks ARMANIS arm.

CHASE

Thanks ass hole.

ARMANI mouths the words sorry while slightly smiling.

HARPER

So is it true that you have a whole wall covered in missing peoples cases?

CHASE

Yeah. I separated them. We can plan a first meeting for this new-

CHASE puts his fingers up in quotation.

CHASE

Group thing we have going on. If you guys would like to?

JACK

Yeah. I might end up calling those fucking bitchy idiots if I don't give up on this subject tonight.

CHASE pats JACK on the shoulder.

CHASE

I'll take care of it for you bud.

EXT. CHASES DREAM - OUTSIDE A CITY

CHASE steps outside of the truck.

CHASE

Thank you.

CHASE waves to the man as he drives off.

DEATH

Sucker there, isn't he?

CHASE

What do you mean?

DEATH

Warning you about who's lurking in the woods.

CHASE

Lurking in the woods?

DEATH

What's your favorite color Chase?

CHASE

Red. What about you?

DEATH

Mine's black but his is blue. Any shade of blue they can give you.

CHASE

Who's favorite color is blue?

DEATH

The one who's watching you.

Suddenly the light blue car from earlier quickly passes past CHASE. CHASE whirls around in a circle in reaction to it. He falls down and passes out in the rain. He suddenly has someone flicking his face. CHASE opens his eyes and sees BLONDE MILITARY MAN looking down at him.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

You alright, solider?

CHASE

I'm not a soldier.

CHASE stands up and wipes his hands on his pants.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

I haven't seen you since the show girls room. Did you have fun in there with her?

CHASE

What do you mean have fun in there with her?

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

She used to be a prostitute. Ran into some scary people out there and now she reads minds.

CHASE listens in shock, unsure if he should believe BLONDE MILITARY MAN.

CHASE

Why hasn't she told me this?

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

Not everybody shares everything right away. It's different when it's what you do for a living.

I'm not like those cops and stuff. It's different in the military. We're not hunting down who called 911, we're hunting down those ready to kill us and others for the salvage reputation of power.

CHASE

That's disgusting.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN looks at CHASE offended.

CHASE

I mean... like as in war wise.

CHASE scratches his head awkwardly.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

What are you doing out here Chase?

CHASE

I just got a ride to the city and then ran into... wait. How do you know my name?

BLONDE MILITARY MAN winks at CHASE.

EXT. CHASES DREAM - VISION MAP

There's a map of Europe and suddenly standing in the placement of Berlin is BLONDE MILITARY MAN. Standing in Glasgow are the two outlines of bodies, as well as two down in Italy, and one in Austria.

CHASE

Who are they?

CHASE sits in Portugal on the map.

CHASE

And why are so many fucking people winking these days?

INT. NIGHT - ARMANIS CAR

CHASE wakes up from his dream. He looks over and sees ARMANI focusing on the road. He looks in the back and JACK and LIA are both asleep.

CHASE

Did you drop Harper off already?

ARMANI

Yeah. She said she'll message you.

CHASE nods his head.

ASHTON

Favorite color. Think Chase think. Think favorite color.

ELLYSE

What's your favorite color, Chase? Mine's green.

ASHTON

I go more for purple.

ELLYSE

Now why would his favorite color be so important, Chase?

ASHTON

He's gotta know this one.

CHASE thinks back on his dream. He remembers DEATH telling him about the color blue.

CHASE

Blue.

ARMANI

What?

CHASE

His favorite color.

ARMANI

Who?

CHASE

The guy that we saw on the side of the road the last time we went hiking. He was in my dreams too. His favorite colors blue.

ARMANI

So?

CHASE leans back in his seat and thinks for a second.

CHASE

Maybe that's a clue.

ARMANI

What does he have to do with any of this?

CHASE

I don't know.

CHASE looks out the window and ARMANI goes back to driving.

KANGAROO COURT BY CAPITAL CITIES PLAYS ON THE RADIO

ARMANI turns the music up a little bit. ARMANI starts nodding his head to the music. CHASE continues looking out the window. As he does, CHASE starts hallucinating, seeing images in the sky of people. CHASE sees the image of CHRIS.

CHASE

Blue.

The image changes to the map.

CHASE

Green?

A body in Glasgow and a body in Milan light up.

CHASE

Black?

A body in Austria lights up. The map vanishes.

ASHTON

You've gone too far.

ELLYSE

Green, huh?

CHASE closes his eyes and listens to the music. He starts humming it.

CHASE

Shut up shut up shut up.

ARMANI

It's a kangaroo court.

CHASE

A kangaroo court.

INT. NIGHT - CHASES ROOM

CHASE pins up a map of Europe on his wall. He circles Glasgow, Milan, Vienna, and Berlin.

CHASE

Delusional thinking but I'm probably going to have to add more in the end.

CHASE puts the cap back on his marker and gets in his bed.

CHASE

Alexa, Light off.

CHASES lights turn off.
