Brief histories
For Kayleigh Fraser's micro challenge
I wrote two pieces for this challenge to write a fifty word history of the world or humanity, as I realised that the piece I had was all about fear, though it is not itself frightening, and I didnt want Kayleigh to feel she had to read it. So I have provided a buffer piece too.
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron…. Good God would you look at that! Little itsy bitsy lifey stuff. So cuoooote. What the blazes? Oh ok. Legs there, some wings, all good, all good. Bit creepy. Just gonna focus on good sparkley rocks…. Ugly one broke my rocks!

“Me too. The world is dangerous.”
“Let’s stay close then.”
“And me?”
“And you.”
“And me?”
“And you.”
“And me?”
“Not you.”
“But he’s….”
“….Different. And besides, we only have enough.”
“He’s found others.”
“Others are dangerous.”
“I…”
“You disagree?”
“Dissent is dangerous?”
“For me or you?”

The Keep
When the reckoning had come, it had come more swiftly and more absolutely than any of us had imagined. The plague had howled through the township like a hurricane, ripping mothers and fathers from their beds to clasp the hands of sleepy children and plunge them out into the night, soft eared rabbits and bears clutched to their pyjamad chests, bare feet pounding at the pavements, softness toughening or yielding in a few short moments. We grow up fast in a disaster. Or we die.

The Hour Long Minute
Once upon a time, in a quirky little town, there was a legend about "The Hour Long Minute." It was said that every year, on the stroke of midnight, time would freeze for exactly one minute, but to anyone experiencing it, it felt like a whole hour had passed. Now, most folks thought it was just a tall tale, but there were a few who claimed they'd lived through it. They'd talk about how the world around them turned eerily still, and for that "minute," they had a chance to do things they'd never dared before. One guy, let's call him Sam, said he used the hour-long minute to propose to his longtime crush, and she said yes. Another lady, Mary, claimed she used that time to finally tell off her boss and quit her job to pursue her dream of becoming a baker. As the years went by, more and more people had their own hour-long minute stories to tell. Some used it to right past wrongs, others to take a leap of faith, and a few just to savor the extra time with loved ones. The legend of "The Hour Long Minute" became a symbol of hope and second chances in the town. People would gather at the town square every New Year's Eve, waiting for that magical moment when time stood still. Whether it was real or just a trick of the mind, "The Hour Long Minute" had a way of making people believe in the power of a single moment. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, it's true. Maybe, somewhere out there, time does give us a little extra nudge when we need it most.

I really love both… I especially like how you used the dialogue in the second one to build up the atmosphere… and yes, it was scary in tone ! But I sincerely appreciated the warning 😁💕 It reminded me of the atmosphere of the Walking Dead (which still to this day I regret programming myself with 🙈😅)
I like how very different the tones were between the two. And yet they both worked so well :)
