Backrooms Decrypted: Thalassophobia (Level 7)

Thalassophobia is another name for The Backrooms Level 7. It has a CLASS 4 survival difficulty rating. It is insecure and unsafe. It has a MEDIUM ENTITY COUNT. Level 7 is a vast ocean, seemingly extending forever in all directions. The level has no fixed lighting, but there is a soft natural light that permeates the entire space. Despite being largely unexplored, Level 7 is thought to consist of two rooms: the entrance room and the "room" housing the ocean itself, which has a tall concrete ceiling suspended above the water.

The Backrooms: Thalassophobia (Level 7)
  • Welcome back, Explorer. Because Level 7 is much more, let's say, immersive than the previous levels, we hope you brought your swimsuit. That is what we mean, and we mean it literally. If you have Thalassophobia, I'm afraid you're going to have a really bad time. However, given the virtually infinite variety of Backroom Levels available, there will undoubtedly be one or two that are perfectly suited to your individual phobias.
    • Isn't it great to be a representative? Welcome to Level 7, landlubber. However, as soon as you enter Level 7, you will find yourself in the entrance room. Before we send you into the madness that lurks outside the walls, take a moment to soak it all in and enjoy the familiarity, because this is about as typical as things get here.
    • This room does not appear particularly strange by Backrooms' standards. A sizable bookcase against the left wall is stocked with a wide selection of strange, obscure books you've never heard of before. Not that you were ever the bookish type. The room has additional furniture, though. In addition, you have a chair, a fluorescent overhead light, a small coffee table, and a few other random items. Other earlier explorers have also left behind some items, perhaps to make the journey ahead a little simpler.
    • A rebreather and several oxygen tanks that you can only assume are full are visible. For a brief moment, you question whether it is appropriate for you to be investigating the sizable but relatively shallow puddle in the center of the space. The fact that this puddle is actually just a typical puddle can be determined, thankfully, by quickly checking it with the ruler you brought with you.
  • Naturally, this draws your attention to the mysterious door on the other side of the room. You've come to believe in the significance of mysterious doors in the backrooms. The small revolver you've been carrying for a few levels now is taken out of your pocket as you approach cautiously. You cautiously open the door, only to discover a defiance of physics that is almost too amazing to comprehend.
  • It appears as though an ocean is beneath you, about five meters away. The wall that appears to be a side wall in this location is actually the ocean's ceiling. Talk about psychedelic. However, your brain has already had some time to get used to the unfamiliarity of this world. You're already considering potential solutions. If you can find some rope in this room, you can make a passage between these two gravitationally displaced zones. So you act in exactly that way.
  • You locate a rope, tie one end to a large piece of furniture in the space, and drop the other end into the water. Explorer made an excellent decision. Following that, you consider the need for a vessel. Maybe you can use the items in the room to make a temporary raft. "I'm finally starting to understand this whole situation," you think to yourself. You make the decision to remove the books from the bookcase and turn them into a makeshift raft using items from the surrounding area.
  • Along with the rebreather and various oxygen tanks, you also fill your backpack. With all of this and the supplies you already have, crossing the ocean ought to be simple. You cast your makeshift raft into the water and descend the rope in its direction, feeling like a real-life adventure hero. As you get closer, something glowing can be seen on the mountainside. There's a gap? A cave mouth? With an intense desire to escape this aquatic, you approach the almost mystical promised aperture. Leaving your worst nightmare behind as you finally cross over. As we go deeper, be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming thrilling exploration of the Backrooms. Longer still in this Liminal Abyss?
