Alvin was looking through his middle school yearbook from his senior year eight years before. He had turned twenty two and was preparing to graduate from college. as he was flipping through the pages he saw familiar faces that he had to forget but one face had stuck out to him. He saw Leah in the senior section where his photo was in alphabetical order. He had a crush on Leah when he first had English class together in eighth grade. At the time he was dealing with several fights on the bus and almost got attacked more than once. it only got worse within the school too. One day he had crossed paths with Leah's ex boyfriend Earl who had pushed Alvin on his shoulder nearly falling back in the middle of the hallway with everyone watching but did nothing. Alvin did not know why Earl did that and he was sure that Earl did not know about Alvin having a crush on leah. Alvin was upset about his encounter with Earl and wanted to fight him. But Alvin pretty much managed to avoid him for a couple of weeks. Picture day had come for the seniors and Alvin had gotten a haircut. He noticed how Leah looked with her long hair curled up and sported mascara as she wanted to look very nice for the shoot. Alvin had put on his graduation robe over his school uniform and took an individual picture of himself and then another with the senior class. January had rolled around and the weather was much colder than before and the senior classes were given the senior activities list. Alvin realized he was not going to be able to do all the senior activities but only one or two. so he put a payment for the senior prom and the yearbook. After he had paid for the prom and yearbook, he saw that it was time to ask Leah to be his prom date. However, he felt nervous doing so especially if he was going to ask in front of class so he had to find a perfect time to ask. It was close to May and he found the perfect time to ask her.

Second period English class was about to end and as she packed her bag Alvin approached her. "Would you like to go to the prom with me?" he nervously asked her. she had looked at him and nodded "no". Alvin just stood by his desk still trying to process what had happened.

At the time he never understood why he was turned down like that. even when he realized it he was still bothered by it. Then came the day of the prom, Alvin did not have a partner to dance with and sat by himself for most of the night. The following Monday he realized how happy Leah was upon entering the classroom. "I had a great time" she said to him, as he felt more distraught than he was in the past three months.

over the years he tended to forget about the prom and focused on his work. At his college graduation he had thought he saw Leah in the crowd as there were so many people. Melvin, who went to elementary and middle school with Alvin and was a grade ahead, spoke at his graduation party.

"I still can picture you in the fifth grade, carrying comic books around, the bus rides home from and to school like it was yesterday! I am proud of the young man you have become where you are right now! I certainly am." The two embraced as the cheers of a.small gathering was heard. After the party had ended Alvin put his middle school year away in favor of his college and high school yearbooks.
