The Cheesecake Love Affair
Companies across the globe are constantly reinventing their marketing strategies to find ways to break through the advertising clutter. Advertising agencies, like Saatchi & Saatchi, have begun approaching the marketplace with creative and innovative advertising campaigns and marketing. As a recent employee of The Cheesecake Factory, Inc., I have experienced the culture and mission firsthand and have learned about the marketing strategies to obtain and retain diners at the 200+ restaurants dotted across Canada and the United States, and throughout the Middle East and China. The Cheesecake Factory does not utilize traditional advertising campaigns, however, its Facebook page is updated with cover videos from time to time to showcase specific cheesecakes or entrees. These videos are rich with colorful ingredients being combined, folded, and assembled. The finished product and then a slice or plate is displayed at the end. Their approach to attracting and retaining customers focuses on providing consistent value in an upscale environment. Each potential restaurant location is vetted to ensure high traffic in the more profitable malls across the country and abroad. Media interest in new restaurant openings and "word of mouth" have been the primary methods to attract guests. Brand recognition and reputation have been developed and nourished by the company and the operating excellence of each restaurant. This is not a new approach for The Cheesecake Factory, however, their ideas closely match the new marketing strategy ideas of Saatchi & Saatchi.

The Complexity of Simple Food. Top Story - June 2022.
In the eyes of many people food is no longer purely a fuel source, yet an opportunity to experience something new or bizarre. Modern cuisine caters to the ever expanding desire to push the boundaries of the label food. Re-constructed, de-constructed and artistic interpretation of meals from humble origins now fill menus across the world. Simple food should be pushed to new levels and people’s expectations should be pushed, like most things change is good for the human soul and culture. Experimenting fires new tastes and flavours that re imagine the core beliefs of the simple foodie. How many people have been bought to tears over new flavour of cheese soufflé is a different question. The dinner table after all, like the stage, is one of the few places where someone can show skill, passion and the desire to create a feeling in someone else. Even if the feeling is simply as being fuller than when they walked in. Someone trying a new recipe for the first time will often go into a completely new mind set, worrying about the strangest little things from “is this carrot too long?”to “is my flakey pastry flakey enough?”. Above all else cooking for many people is that escape, the simple act of focusing on one thing, the meal.

I’m lovin’ it! Is a love of Big Mac the secret to a long life?
"Who do you want to see go first, you or them?" Eighteen years ago, Morgan Spurlock in his 2004 award winning documentary “Super Size Me” set out to put things straight about what regular fast food consumption at massive levels could do to a human body. Clearly Spurlock's glut had "supersized” his meals nine times along the way. As calorie and fat counts failed to add up, disappointing results pushed McDonald’s to remove its “super size” menu options.

My friends at Mr. Mike's Grill
My friends at Mr. Mike’s Grill are in Westland, MI, on Wayne Rd. When you walk into this family restaurant, you are truly treated like family. The owners, Sammy and Hiyam, have over 40 years of experience in the business, and they have owned and operated Mr. Mike’s Grill since 2014. During this time, they have brought in their daughters, Tanya and Angie, to help run the restaurant alongside them, truly making the environment family owned and operated. You may not be able to tell right away which one of these lovely ladies you are going to get, as they equally share their mothers’ good looks, but they will both welcome you with the warmest smile when walk in, alongside the other wonderful staff there!

Pork Roll, Egg, & Cheese
If you are not from the Jersey shore, a love of pork roll is hard to explain, but I will try. Salty and tangy, the cooked meat is shaved into slices, cooked again on a griddle or flat top grill, and piled three- or four-slices-high onto soft rolls with drippy eggs and cheese. Salt, pepper, and ketchup are added as per the buyer’s preference, and the sandwich is wrapped in a sort of foil paper. Then, the greasy masterpieces are thrown into paper bags. Pork roll can be purchased in logs, which are wrapped in cloth at grocery stores, but I’ve never seen the meat at any ‘real’ butcher’s shop. The cheese is usually yellow American or mozzarella, which is what my mother used to order, when she still ate bread.
