Missing good old fashion family dinners

What ever happen to the good old days where a family of four would go out one day a week to an actual restaurant as a special time instead of always eating out. Families will always say cooking is so time consuming so going out is easy. This is true but also false due to the fact that if families plan out meals stand budget the can save so much money especially during this crisis and unrest. Money is another reason that families go out is that fast food places are "cheaper" but that is another excuse for not being lazy . This is not a story about reasons why people go out to fast food place or being lazy to cook but a story how I went from being a plain jane of food to becoming a real foodie who will try anything that I come across be it be small mom & pop joints to a restaurant chain hole in a wall .

Food is one universal thing that attracts people all around the world whether you are female, male , or unknown. People cook all the time for family or themselves. Cooking shows are becoming popular in today's world for people who want to learn or just to get new ideas about recipes. For me I grew up around food my grandmother was Italian so food was main reason for family get together . It wasn't just my grandmother that was the cook of the household , my grandfather was a brilliant cook as well but he varied the recipes from both his mother and father. Even though I was little I was always helping them cook or bake in the kitchen.

Growing up with my grandparents one the many rules of the house was that you helped out in the kitchen by cooking or cleaning up . I always prefer helping the cook of the evening which was usually grandma. My grandpa was the baker who was more messy when it came to it. Its funny looking back at weird that I am Irish and Scottish while being Mexican/native American but I am not writing about that. I am writing about how food became who I am. Most families have old recipes that have been passed down yet they are rarely used but for me I love using them . The most used recipe is my grams gravy (sauce) for pasta , I always make it just as it starts to get cold outside .

When I am not at home I love going to try new restaurants in the area or sometimes I go to my guilty pleasure panda express . The only time I do go to these places is if I am working overtime but I try to plan my meals for at least two weeks or more. When I first started meal planning I would get frustrated with figuring out the details but then I asked a coworker of mine who had been doing this for two years and saved a lot of money on how to get going . She went the extra mile to invite me to her home to learn how to do the whole process from start to finish .
