So, the 2023 Red Sox season begins today. Although the team finished in last place in 2022 and wasn’t able to sign their long-term shortstop, Xander Bogarts; Chaim Bloom and Alex Cora knows the team needs to improve.

2023 Red Sox Season Begins Today

So, today the season begins at Fenway Park on March 30th.

The team will open up against the Baltimore Orioles at 2:10 p.m.

In the first place, last year, Bloom didn’t do anything to address the issues with the bullpen’s collapse. Indeed, that issue cost the team their last-place finish.

Though the team lost Bogarts; they also saw Nathan Eovaldi, J.D. Martinez, and several other players depart via free agency.

Although Bloom signed Trevor Story; Story was hit by a pitch and this limited his availability for the rest of the season. In addition, Chris Sale broke three bones in his hand which was another big loss.

Well this year, Chris Sale is back. Will he regain his form?

Moreover, Bloom has gone out and made a lot of changes. At the same time, one positive step was resigning Rafael Devers. Devers was signed to a 10-year deal at $313.5 million dollars which will begin in 2024.

Consistency was something the team also lacked last year. In my opinion, the 2022 team never seemed to gel. Not only was there a lack of production; but also, they were bad defensively. Meanwhile, you never knew how many runs they were going to give up on any given day. So, there appear to be some new arms this year.

Rule Changes

Of course, every year there are changes in the game.

One of the biggest changes this season is the pitch clock. So, this year the MLB is hoping to reduce game time by approximately 25 minutes. When the pitcher takes the mound, there is a 15-second rule with the bases empty. Additionally, there are 20 seconds when there are runners on base.

Hopefully, these changes will have both pitchers and players ready quicker.

Also, bases are much larger this year. They have gone from 15 inches to 18 inches and resemble a pizza box.

2023 Red Sox Team Predictions – American League East

Although this team is much different than 2022; most people don’t think this team will do well. Will they finish in last place in the American League East? Of course, time will tell.

However, this is the first year I have watched a few Spring Training games. Though the team was undefeated for the first few weeks; the team has piled up quite a few losses and finished Spring Training with a 500 record.

First and foremost, Alex Cora doesn’t have high expectations. But, the one thing he said at the beginning of Spring Training is to get better.

Since the team plays in one of baseball’s toughest divisions, it is possible they end up in last place again.

With the addition of many new players; I am hoping the team performs better than last year. Of course, time will tell. Because there are 162 games in a season; anything is possible.

Moreover, I am excited to see how this team’s chemistry comes together.

2023 Red Sox – Will you be Tuning in?

In essence, the jury is out on how this team will do once the season begins today. However, as an avid fan; I will definitely be tuning in. Or, at least for the first part of the season. Check out my Red Sox Fan post to learn more about my love of the team.

Whether you are at Fenway or watching the game somewhere else, or at home; this hoodie is ideal to wear.

Finally, I don’t have high expectations for this team to go far. But, I do think they will be better than many are predicting. However, I think the Toronto Blue Jays are the team to keep your eye on.

As always, I welcome your comments on the 2023 Red Sox.
