Going through a divorce is challenging. There are so many mixed emotions that may be going through your head. That being said, it can be even harder on your children. Their whole life is changing, and it is our fault. They didn't choose this. You did.

Because of this, you need to do whatever you can to protect your children. Here are some things that you can do for them.

You should never put them in the middle. You don't want your children to have to choose between the two of you. They deserve to have both of their parents in their lives, and you shouldn't mess that up.

It is equally important that you don't talk bad about the other parent in front of your children. In fact, you should never talk bad about the other parent EVER. But your children should never hear you say anything bad. This will only hurt your relationship with your children.

You also need to realize that your children are going to need you during this time. Even if they prefer to hang out in their rooms, you need to be there for your children while they are hurting. You should give them space, but also let them know that you are there if they need to talk, or even if they just need a hug.

They are also going to need their other parent. You should never keep your children away from their other parent. Even if they don't have visitation, if your child needs to see their other parent, you need to allow them to do so. If that isn't possible, at least allow them to talk to them on the phone. Nothing good comes from keeping your children away from their other parent.

You also need to find a way to get along. You are going to be dealing with each other for the rest of your children's lives, so the sooner that you can start to get along and communicate, the better off your children will be.

Find a way to show when it counts. Both of you should attend school events, sports games, and special events. In fact, you may even find a way to spend holidays together with your children. All of this will help your children as they grow.

Pay child support if you are required to. Though you may not want to spend this extra money, the truth is that it is going to be used for your children. It will help the other parent keep a roof over their head and food in their bellies.

Make your health a priority. You can't take care of your children if you aren't taking care of yourself. You need to focus on eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep.

You may even want to consider getting professional help. There is nothing wrong with talking to someone about your divorce. In fact, he or she may be able to help you learn new ways to cope, as well as ways that you can help your children too!

Though this is a difficult time for you, it may be even worse for your children. You need to be there for your children. You also need to allow them to spend time with their other parent. Even better, you need to find ways to work together. This makes your children's lives even better because they don't have to worry about choosing between the two of you.

You also need to take care of yourself. If you aren't healthy, you can't help your children either. It may also help to talk to a professional. He or she could really help you feel better about the situation, and help you with your children and their feelings too!
