With the rising number of COVID-19 cases, as well as other factors such as flu season and cold weather approaching for many parts of the world, you may find yourself finding more time indoors or at home with your family. Instead of driving yourselves crazy with the same old activities, here are a few fun things you can do with the entire family.

Family Game Night

One fun activity that the whole family can enjoy is a family game night. Games are a good alternative, especially for children, to watching television or playing video games. A lot of board games require a bit of brainpower and strategy. Activities such as puzzles have also been a proven brain exercise to get your brain thinking in ways it may not be used to. Having a game night with your family will help to establish traditions and leave your children with lasting memories. This is the perfect way to spend time together and bond.

Arts & Crafts

Taking time as a family to do some arts and crafts is another great way to spend some time together and develop your child’s creative side. Having a craft night doesn’t have to be anything too difficult or over the top, there are plenty of resources online with lots of great craft ideas and instructions on how to do them. You can even find crafts that do not require a lot of materials such as scissors or paint, for example, you can do origami as a family, and use it as an opportunity to teach your family about the culture and history of Japan. There are also plenty of craft kits or even activities such as coloring books that make having an arts and crafts night even easier. You can also explore activities such as painting, photography, or even poetry, the options are endless.

Cook Together

Another fun activity, that will also help in teaching your children skills that can be both valuable and practical is to cook a meal together. You can give each of your children simple assignments such as mixing ingredients or adding in spices and flavors under supervision. Cooking together helps to create memories, as well as teach kids important principles such as hard work and the importance of following instructions. You can also have your kids help you set the table and do the dishes. This will help them learn the importance of cleaning up after themselves. The best part is, they can eat a yummy meal and feel proud that they helped to make it happen.

Learn a Sport

Most kids typically tend to show interest in some kind of sport or activity and even though you may be stuck indoors, you can probably still find a way to learn or improve their skills when it comes to that sport. You can find a mini basketball hoop, a cushioned soccer ball, or get a ping pong table to enjoy with your kids. Thanks to virtual reality, you can also participate in activities such as virtual bowling or even use a golf home studio to work on their skills. This will also help your kids to work out some of their pent up energy if they have been spending a lot of time indoors.

Have a Movie Night

It doesn’t get much better than gathering the family around, grabbing some delicious snacks, and finding a movie that everyone will enjoy. With streaming services and modern technology, finding new movies to watch has never been easier. While watching movies is fun on its own, you can also talk to your kids about why they liked or disliked the movie and help them to understand the lessons that are so often a part of movies, especially children’s movies.

It may feel overwhelming to find activities for the whole family, especially if the options are limited due to the weather or other unforeseen circumstances but the good news is, with a little creativity, you can find things to do with your kids that will not only keep them entertained but also teach them a thing or two.
