An Atheist Celebrates Christmas
The Promise is a marvellous book, the sequel to Chaim Potok's best-selling first novel The Chosen. Both deal with the clash of cultures, the Orthodox Jewish world and the straight-laced world of Hasidism in The Chosen where the friendship of two boys is tested by conflicts between their fathers. And the clash between Orthodoxy and modernism in The Promise.

Excerpt from Life Lesson #1: …Staying out of high school for 3 weeks nearly cost me my chance to graduate. I had to take remedial classes and get tested in front of the principal before they would let me graduate. But, this was the least of my problems. I still had to find a way to go back home without being manhandled again.
Do Not Die Before I Stop Talking!
Do Not Die Before I Stop Talking! My 47-year-old father's death crushed me harder than anything I saw while I was in Vietnam.Cemeteries are the landlords of our lifeless bodies. Inside each casket, you will find a lifetime of memories, if only the residents could talk. For many of us, they also contain the answers to many unspoken questions.
Family Symbolism
People may wonder about the significance of symbolism. I believe many reasons exist. Symbols represent ideas and qualities. Thus, the importance is to remind and represent the idea with a symbol.

Everything had a tacky film coating it from the heat of this particularly humid and sticky summers day. As he tipped the contents of the putrid overladen bin out onto the kitchen bench-top, I had a split second to make the decision - should I laugh or should I cry. I sensed both emotions waiting at the door of expression. My 18 year old self, desperate to do things professionally and create some sort of sturdy adult-worthy footing from this crumbling beer-stained establishment, was starting to realise that my father and the idea of ‘professional prestige’ that I held so tightly, were not in any way interwoven and could in no way co-exist.
Birthday Gift for My Lady...
It's normal to fall in love with the girl I'm going to marry. At such a time when she talks about something she loves so much I have to listen to it no matter how much I dislike it. Not only that, I have to even try to convince her that I am also very interested in it.

Why does an employer expect you to work hundreds of hours more than they pay you for? Why do employees feel that they have to work overtime just because it is expected of them?

Is there really a labor shortage? The October 2021 employment numbers recorded over 523,000 jobs created. I see hiring notices everywhere in Florida, but wonder if there really is such a shortage. Or the employer's doing something that makes a potential employee not want to work for them. An example is an employer not paying enough, what benefits are included. Are employers discriminating against seniors that apply for the position? There can be many factors that are fueling the labor shortage. In this age of covid-19 people are evaluating their lives. No one is willing to sacrifice their lives for $8 an hour. Americans are refusing to work for so little, especially with covid-19 being a dangerous Factor on the job. Half the country is unvaccinated so the workers don't feel safe. The possibility of an unvaccinated person coming into their job has scared potential workers away. There are many low-wage jobs that are hiring people but positions are not being filled. Americans will learn to live with covid 19 as more variants of covid are mutated. This disease is not going anywhere and is just mutating into different variants due to the unvaccinated.
