travel
Family travel is complicated. And sometimes fun.
Following My Father
In San Francisco, my parents rented a large flat on Funston Avenue, bordering Park Presidio Boulevard. The only furniture we had were our dining table and chairs, and beds, they pulled out of storage. What might have been a beautiful and comfortable flat had it been furnished and decorated properly, was cold, physically, and for me, emotionally.

Following My Father
The old brown-shingled house on Main Street had some fascinating features. The dingy laundry room at the back held a wringer washing machine. I loved to watch the sudsy water swish the clothes around. When the clothes were clean and rinsed, I pushed them through the wringer, then pulled them out the other side. Mom and I shook them out and loaded them into a basket to take outside.

My Daughter and Her Husbands' Holiday in Iceland
We arrived at Keflavik International Airport in November, from England where it was 12 degrees. When we landed, it was -12 degrees and the 24 degree difference could be felt in every bone in your body. Suffice to say it was absolutely freezing!

My days in self quarantine
After a few years back in the UK, deciding where to live, what job to do and just putting one step in front another, I decided to move back to Portugal and start a new job as a Drama Teacher at an International School near Cascais. This was in July 2020, when flights were being cancelled and everything seemed completely scary! This was a crazy time to move!

This is Not My Beautiful House
There is a moment before the sun wakes, the air is crisp, and my spot under the weight and warmth of the covers is cozy; I am happy and at home. So happy in this place that I don’t want to move; I don’t want to fully wake and face the reality of the day. I’m free in this half-asleep state, free to dream of a time taken for granted the little things. I remember the feel of the cold tile beneath my feet and the sound of my dogs tap dancing around between my room and the back door alerting me to let them out, the rich smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen, and that quiet time before the rest of the house wakes.
