I Became a Mother in a Convenience Store Parking Lot
I became a mother in the parking lot of a Uni Mart convenience store in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania. A kind of town never once a blink of promise. I imagined it an easy target for eighty dollar robberies and drug deals, only for it’s smallness and inconsequential existence.

I Admitted My Four Year Old to a Psychiatric Hospital
The elevator up to the 7th floor was slower than expected. I squeezed my son’s favorite stuffed dinosaur tightly against my chest, it’s bright blue cloth reflecting off the shiny grey elevator walls. He had just been admitted to the hospital the night before, and my head was pounding from the 13 hours in the ER.

Teenagers
At Cisco's home things were never boring especially with two teenagers that were going through hormonal changes, the communication would be between their friends that were the most important people in their lives. Theresa would usually find out later, thank God it was only once a year that Thalia the children's birth mom would be in the same state as The Jean.

Haddan Saeidan
Amy Greenlane lost her parents in a car accident when she was a small child and her Granpa and Granma adopted her as soon as possible. They slowly made her feel better by nourishing her soul with words and those words eventually made sentences then pages thus became the books of her life. Everyday words, new words, odd words, foreign words-diverse collections and arrangements of various words breathed in new meanings then exhaled hurts and therefore caressed her broken heart by their salve. Words made her feel alive, whole again. They gradually made her spirit tell its own happy stories.

Between the Pages
Leah Ellison is a 24-year-old single mother living in Gainesville, Florida and raising her 4-year-old twin boys, Michael & Legion. She works two part-time jobs as a cashier at a local grocery store during the day and she works as a waitress overnight at a local diner. After losing her mother, Denise six months ago, Leah was not able to afford the rent to remain at mother’s apartment. She and her sons moved out the week after she died with little money and no chance of being able to move into an apartment of her own anytime soon due to her poor rental history. Leah was left with no other choice but to move in with her best friend, Nikki and her two children. The six of them were living under one roof in a small one bedroom apartment in constant fear of being kicked out if Nikki’s landlord found out about her living arrangement with Leah and her sons living in the apartment without his authorization. While Leah was appreciative to Nikki for taking the risk to make sure she and her sons weren’t sleeping on the street, Leah wanted more and she didn’t want to live this way for the rest of her life.

The New Girls
The children are all streaming towards the school doors and the other mums and dads have long gone, but I’m still there, half-hiding behind the school gate as I watch Chloe wander into school. She walks alone, and my heart twists inside me as I see two girls near her join arms and skip towards the doors. No one even seems to see her, but then why should they? Today is her first day and I know how that goes. No matter what age you are, it is so brutally hard to be the new girl.

The Baby Is Coming
Pregnancy is hard. At the end you're just so anxious, nervous, but ready to be done. You are counting down the days to your due date. Counting down the days until it is safe for you to go into labor without any health risks to your new bundle of joy. For several people, myself included, you are counting down the days until that little foot is no longer in your rib cage. Counting down the days until you no longer have to use the bathroom every hour on the hour. Counting down the days until you no longer feel hungry all the time. Counting down the days until you can see your toes again. Counting down the days until you can hold that precious little baby that has been growing inside you. Counting down the days until you can hold that little being inside you instead of only feeling their movement. Counting down the days until you can sleep on your stomach again. Counting down the days until you doctor finally tells you that you're body is readying itself for labor.

COVID, Luke's Story
Luke startled me awake with the sound of him crying. The familiar, yet unsettling wheezing and gasping was deafening. He lay heavily against my chest, the heat of his body felt like a furnace against my skin. I moved him from where he lay on me, his momma, his safe place, onto the couch so that I could prepare his medications. Earlier that day, we had fallen asleep while watching a movie during one of our infamous "Momma and Son Snuggle-Dates". I had noticed then that he seemed exhausted, but I thought it was because of the long, busy morning that we had. Unfortunately, I was wrong and here is Luke's story.
