“Mom” I Might Need That

HELP! Adult Children Just Can’t Let Go

Oh Mother ~ The Clutter

Wow, how many things do your adult children really need?

Do we call them hoarders?

Not in my home. It’s not one it’s two, the connection to things, sentiments that they feel so connected to, they just cannot let go.

I will give them credit, they are trying, as you can see by the boxes. Slowly I am seeing these being past on to others in need. I see them stand and look for a long time, those things go in the pile of, not sure.

I am sure, hold it and if you haven’t worn it, seen it in awhile ,then it’s time to let it go.

Photographs are the true memories, those are important. As for clothes, they might come back in style, probably they will. Trust me you don’t want to be in your 80’s wearing something you wore in your teens.

Then there is the collector. Yes things go up in value as they have never come out of the box. Please don’t touch them, help I am running out of space!

I have been having renovations done on our home. We have had several calls for buyers interested in our home, great offers but we still wish to live here. We just need to get rid of so many things.

Recently after someone past away, the daughter had to work so hard to find places for things to go. Making sure the family had special sentiments, the rest was given to various ones in need. So much stuff,I felt bad for the young lady.

I told my husband, I really don’t want to leave our home in this situation. Home is where the heart is, not where there are tons and tons of things.

Watching “Hoarders”, on the television, it is sad to see how some people live. Many could never even get out of the house. It’s rather scary to watch. Things that mean so much to so many and they just keep adding to it.

Watching the councillors work with the people, the emotions and attachments they have to things, is overwhelming. When their family come in and see how they are living (or best friends), they are heartbroken.

Sadly watching the show and seeing how hard it is when the councillors try hard, taking things away. Many are not even able to let go, forcing the house to be boarded up and the individual removed.

As I joke of my children, the things they really want to keep. I understand it. Especially at the homestead they grew up in. A bit of them are always here, we just don’t need volumes.

Downsizing and cleaning is so important. Most of all nothing in this world can replace memories, family time together.

The reason many hold on to things, especially in the case of my parents. Possibly can stem from growing up during the depression, not having much. When they get things they feel full, especially canned food.

Whatever the reason, we will have a clean home, but most of all we will have a home filled with lots of love and happiness. “We Are Family”❤️
