Why is Being a Single Parent So Hard?
The old adage goes “nobody said it would be easy”. This is true in the case of parents and especially true when one parent is necessitated with being a single parent. Either from a result of divorce, death of a spouse or additional family matters, this quote is especially true for single parents.

Letters to my Alcoholic Father
Dear dad, I'm currently 5 years old and living with you in a one-bedroom apartment after you and mom got divorced. You walk me to school everyday and we when we go grocery shopping you always buy me a doll. We always walk by a house that has a dog with one green eye and one blue eye, I love him. Our apartment is pretty small, just one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. Sometimes we go out to parties at your friends house where I sleep while you party. These have been your friends since you were my age, they're like my uncles and I know they'd never harm me but I just don't feel like a party is a good environment for a little girl my age and I don't like how you drive after each party, it's like you forgot how to drive in a straight line during the party, so silly. One day you were sleeping after partying a lot and you wouldn't wake up the next day, I was so bored. One of your closest friends and his wife came to get me while you were sleeping and said they were taking me to my mom's house. I couldn't tell you at the moment or say bye cause you were sleeping but I went with mom and I couldn't understand why they took me there, but when I grow up I'll understand.

The difficult change of parenthood
Having a child is a challenging change, even if it is something you have been planning for. The ever growing presence of social media in our lives is adding pressure to show the perfect life at all times. Seeing people balance work, families, social lives, and managing a house with a smile of brilliantly white teeth can make a lot of us feel like we are doing a less than adequate job. We all fall under this need to show that we are coping, so only post pictures of the cute moments from our day to day lives.

Seeds of Yesterday
Cathy and Chris show up at Foxworth Hall, which has been re-worked by Bart, for his 25th birthday celebration party. Bart has stayed fixated on Malcolm and has an irritated relationship with his mom and uncle/step-father because of their perverted relationship. He's even changed his last name to Foxworth so as to underscore his good ways from them. His indignation and contempt is especially pointed towards Chris, however as yet indicating a profound love for his mom. Jory and his significant other, Melodie, show up to report she is pregnant with twins. Everybody, except Bart, is amped up for the news and Bart is envious of his sibling since he covertly desires Melodie.

She leans in a forgotten place. Perhaps, my Mothers garage. Covered in a decade worth of dust kicked up from passers by — who can't remember how important she once was. I imagine she feels she is hibernating. Using her winter to recall the sound of tiny feet hitting wooden steps. Of hands against her frame. And of raindrops and sunlight.

“Many Wisdom traditions tell us to call things that are not as though they are!” As single mothers, what is it we want to accomplish? Own our own business? Write a book? Meet Mr. Right? Spend more time together as a family? Have more outings—or maybe just feel normal again? Since it is easy to stay in a survival mode, most single mothers go into this mode first. Not only that, it is very easy to stay in this mode because just to survive at this point takes a tremendous amount of intelligence and energy. The goal I wanted to attain was to thrive, not just survive. To thrive, after a reasonable amount of time you must first get out of the survival mode. The next step is creating a roadmap, or a (once again) written plan that comes from your vision of what you feel you want or need in order to thrive.

The Parc Slip Explosion
On the morning of August 26th, 1892, 22-year-old coal haulier William Lyddon left his home at Fountain Cottages in Aberkenfig, South Wales, and made the short walk to work his shift underground at Parc Slip Colliery. It was the day of the annual St Mary Hill Fair, and apparently a fine Summer's day. William's shift would begin at six in the morning; with twenty or so of his colleagues having gone to the Fair - an hour into the shift, only 143 Davy lamps had been handed out to the men going underground.
