climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the macame route

machame route, also known as whiskey route, is one of the most beautiful and recommended route on kilimanjaro. This popular route with trails cuts through beautiful forests to a ridge that leads through moor areas to the shira plateau. It then crosses the glacial cliffs of the southern ice fields to join the barafu route to the top. because it can be done for a longer time and the tilt is easier to control, the success rate of the peak is much higher.

THE BEST TIME TO climb KILIMANJARO

April May

The "big" rainy season begins at the end of March and lasts until mid-May. April marks the coldest start of the year in Tanzania. These months have far fewer climbers than the rest of the year, but you have a good chance of hiking in the rain this time of year.

June July

The frequency of rain decreases gradually. The weather in Kilimanjaro these months is quite dry and clear, but the nights are still cold. June is generally quiet, sunny and, in our opinion, very underrated for climbing. You should choose June for your adventure because of the wonderful weather and the almost private routes of your climbing group. The number of climbers increased as the year progressed. From July, most routes will be quite busy.

October is another unfairly overlooked season:

Nice weather lasts until mid-October and the number of climbers drops dramatically, giving you a good chance to enjoy the Kilimanjaro hikes almost alone. At the end of October, the weather becomes more changeable. As long as you're equipped to withstand the occasional downpour, this shouldn't pose a big problem.

November is the "little" rainy season. Rainy weather can last until mid-December. Temperatures will drop and fog will cover the mountain, making your ascent a bit difficult and adventurous, but more challenging and enjoyable. November may not be the best time in terms of weather, but offers a great opportunity to take in the stunning views of the mist-covered Mount Kilimanjaro with its snow-capped peaks and take some photos great.

December - January - Christmas and New Year is Kilimanjaro's second busiest climbing season. Traffic is extremely high, although heavy rain and clouds are more likely at the lower elevations of Kilimanjaro.

Mid-January to mid-March is very popular for climbers. Fully balanced weather:

The weather is neither too cold nor too humid. The days are generally dry, although there is occasional rain. The possibility of rain increases in the second half of March as the “heavy rain” season approaches.

KILIMANJARO TEMPERATURE

Kilimanjaro's temperature correlates with four different climate zones.

The rainforest zone (800m to 3,000m) is warm and humid. This zone has dense green vegetation, an altitude of 2,900 m and an average temperature of 12-15 °C (20-25 °C during the day). Depending on the route, his first day or two of the climb will be spent here.

The low mountains (3,000m to 4,200m) are semi-arid. The higher you climb, the sparse the vegetation. Depending on the route, you will spend 1-2 days at 3,600m with an average temperature of 5-10°C (15-20°C during the day).

The alpine area (4,200m-5,000m) is like a desert. Here he spends his fourth day and his fifth day on the mountain, making final preparations for climbing these heights. The average temperature here is near freezing at 5,000 m, but it's still warm and comfortable during the sunny days.

The summit of Kilimanjaro is located in a glacial area (over 5,000 m above sea level), with an average temperature of around -6 °C. Note, however, that all summit attempts are usually launched at midnight in order to reach Uhuru's summit by dawn. Move at night when the temperature drops to -20°C. Temperatures can drop below -40°C when the wind blows. It's worth braving the cold, but at the top you can see one of the best images you'll ever see in the light of the rising sun.

About Machame Route:

The Machame route is considered one of the less challenging routes on Kilimanjaro, as the longer itinerary offers more flexibility. However, hikers still have to climb Barranco He Wall and climb a steep incline at night on the summit. No technical climbing is required, but moderate fitness is highly recommended. You can read more about training to climb Kilimanjaro and the Kilimanjaro Training Program page and prepare accordingly.

The approximate trekking distance of the Machame Route is 62 kilometers (37 miles) from the trailhead to the summit of Mweka Gate. The minimum number of days required for the Machame route is 6 days, but it takes 10 days when the arrival and departure days are combined. However, this is a much longer approach route, so it's actually best done over 7-8 days. At the end of a successful change.
