There are many reasons to not go to college. It just isn't meant for everyone. In this article, you will learn why you don't need to go to college.

1) It's Very Expensive

College is very expensive. Not only do you have to pay a tuition yearly, but you also have to pay for room, food, etc. There are so many expenses for students that they are not ready for.

If you're thinking of going to Harvard, there tuition alone is $51,925 a year.

That's $207,700 in loans.

Room and board, and other expenses also add up to your total. The room costs $15,000 a year, and all the other "small expenses" will cost you around $7,000 a year.

The total loan is now $295,700.

This will all not be paid at one time, so interest will hit you at around 4.5% a year.

Overall, if you want to pay off your loan in 10 years, you will pay $3,000 monthly. That's a lot of money!!!

You can use this calculator to check how much it would cost for your standards.

So, if you want to avoid debt and get straight to the workforce and makes money then don't go to college!!!

Colleges help students out. If your family meets the criteria, you might not even have to pay tuition or lowered tuition or even a scholarship. Talk to your counselor to learn about how much you would have to pay.

2) You need to work now

Maybe you're not in the best financial stance in your life or your family needs your help or you're looking to take care of yourself. The list goes on.

What if a business offered you to work for them at an entry job? Would this be a better option than going to school? It might be, but you will never know.

For me personal I would take the opportunity. You're going to go for an entry level job anyways after school.

4 years at that job 50k a year would be 200k before tax without any expenses (if you're living with your parents). You will most likely be promoted during those 4 years and will have a great career ahead of you.

This is a good reason why you might want to enter the workforce.

3) Companies no longer requiring degrees

Yes it's true. Your job may not be requiring a degree.

Some companies that no longer require a college degree:

  • Google
  • Apple
  • Costo
  • Whole Foods
  • Hilton
  • Publix
  • Starbucks
  • Nordstrom
  • Home Depot
  • IBM
  • Bank of America
  • Chipotle
  • Lowe's

Yes all these companies and much more are beginning to not require college degrees. Not just beginner jobs, but jobs including HQ, corporate, and management.

4) Your academics aren't good

If you already hate school, it's unlikely that you're not going to like college.

BUT....................................

Students with lower GPAs in high school tend to outperform students with higher GPAs in high school.

The main perk of college is choosing your classes. You receive more freedom with the subjects you want to study.

BUT....................................

Some don't like the teaching environment. You might not like to be lectured in class for 1+ hours. Maybe you prefer a bootcamp or online courses. Whichever method is best for you, GO FOR IT!

5) You can self-educate

Self education is very popular. You can learn anything that you would like all on the internet, seminars, private classes, etc.. You have so many options!

Including college students. The moment you leave college isn't when you stop learning. You should continue to educate yourself and learn new things.

Some skills to learn:

  • Management
  • Coding
  • Stock/Investing
  • Real Estate
  • Marketing
  • Graphic Design
  • Accounting

There is many skills to learn, but these are skills you can learn and have a good career with or even start your own business.

6) You can start your own business

My favorite. Starting your own business. This will be risky, especially starting with nothing as a young adult. It will be very hard.

Depending on your business, you will need capital.

For starting a business, I recommend going to college and starting a business on the side. Finding people that are interested in joining your team and create your product/service.

Having partners/team will allow you to do your work more efficiently, faster, and not much need for capital. You won't need to hire people, you will have your friends work with you and earn themselves equity.

Then you can present your business to VC Firms and receive cash to grow your company.

This is risky, but you can hit a fortune.

Conclusion

Going to college might not be the best option. Many majors will not result in stable income and the job market is not good in the future. On top of that you will have to deal with debt.

Do what is best for you. You will have to do more research, but college is not your own option. If you don't go to college, it will feel like the world hates you. All your friends, family, strangers will tell you that you're a loser.

But are they living your life? No. So don't spend a second taking their bitter rudeness. Go ahead and figure your life out. Good luck!

If you don't mind leaving a tip, if you can't a like would be much appreciated. Thanks!
