What If you drank water only for the rest of your life

By javeria javedPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

Have you ever heard of "water fasting"?

It's a particular kind of fast where all but water is restricted. Most people only water fast for a maximum of 72 hours, but what if you did it for the rest of your life?

Haha, no, not so much.

Water is really important, you know. And by "pretty important," I mean "absolutely necessary.".

60% of the water in your body is your own.

I think that's a significant portion. Now, consuming water can have some very significant advantages.

Heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer can all be prevented by it.

Do you think you could try this water-only diet?

It sounds great, right?

Hey, I love your energy, but I've got some bad news.

There are 70 days left. Tops.

You would feel fine when you started your water-only diet.

even good.

You would start to experience hanger, or the combination of hunger and rage. This is due to the fact that your body would eventually run out of glucose.

Your body uses glucose as its main energy source, which you store when you eat carbohydrates. Your body would be frantically looking for its next glucose fix, though, now that you've vowed to abstain from eating. Every day, you could lose 2 kilograms (4 lb) of weight.

This results from the one-two punch of electrolyte imbalance and dehydration.

What would then occur is that your body would have adjusted to the lack of food and would be in a state of ketosis.

At this point, your body would start using fat as fuel rather than glucose.

Don't be deceived; you might even feel a little bit better.

A hurting unit, that's you.

Your ability to survive would increase as your fat reserves increased.

The only thing left to break down after all of your fat is gone is muscle.

In case you missed it, your heart is a muscle-based organ. This carries a significant risk.

Your pulse and blood pressure will drop if your heart isn't getting enough oxygen.

That's because your blood pump is no longer functioning normally.

At this point, all of your proteins would have been broken down, and your mental function would be severely impaired.

You would be starving, which is why. Your digestive system would suffer as a result. This would result in nausea, vomiting, and, my personal favorite, bacterial infections.

Even worse conditions would be apparent. Your body would be malnourished, and you would feel weaker than ever.

You can anticipate a number of health issues, including headaches, dizziness, and trouble focusing.

You would deteriorate as the days passed.

Symptoms like extreme fatigue, rapid weight loss, and muscle wasting would be more severe.

Serious health issues like sepsis or kidney failure would also be a concern.

You don't look too good, I'm sorry. Without help, you'd be helpless and incredibly frail.

Infection or organ failure would also put you at a high risk of passing away. Yeah, your immune system suffers while you are perpetually starving because of the deficiency of vitamins and minerals.

You become vulnerable to all kinds of nasty germs as a result.

You probably wouldn't last much longer if you only drank water.

You would be gravely undernourished and suffering from a greatest-hits collection of medical issues. But hey, you did it, and we're sending the medics your way right away.

No, it wasn't really worthwhile.

The long-term viability of a water-only diet is questionable.

For maintaining good health, a balanced diet is crucial.

However, it's kind of amazing that you made it to 70 days despite being on the verge of quitting.

What else can we try if the human body is that resilient? Well, what if you only drank Coca-Cola for a month?

Well, that's a story for another WHAT IF.

Grab yourself a soda from the fridge.
